I used to think it was a waste of time, but I realized with Inception; the movie is only in the theater once, then never again. And the theater experience is truly different than just watching the DVD.

So I came to the conclusion that it is fine/not a waste to see a really good movie in the theater twice, or even three times.

What do you think? What movies have you seen in theaters more than once?

Andria

Depends on the movie

if there is a lot to take in/notice/realize then I am all for seeing it multiple times.

If it is something boring and shallow then I think it is a waste to see it more than once

Humongous waste of money. I'm definitely not shelling out $16+ to see it twice... I don't even watch movies I own more than once in the time it takes for a movie to enter and leave the theatres

I usually feel like movies are a waste of money the first time I see them.

strongbad

Huge waste of money, especially for me. We have a great entertainment room with a projector and awesome couch, and I honestly enjoy watching movies there more so than in theaters.

Cookie

Yeah movies tickets here are $9. I feel like the cost to movieness ratio is a little off. See it once and then buy the DVD later.

Samus Aran

It largely depends on two things: what the movie is and who I'm seeing it with. It's definitely worth it to take someone awesome to a movie that they haven't seen yet but you have, for example.

Thyme

I've never seen a movie in theaters more than once.

There are movies I've watched on DVD hundreds of times, though. It's fun when you get to the point where you know alll the lines by heart. I could probably recite the Quebec dub of Tombstone from beginning to end. sillydood;

My brother's better at this and more keen to do it, though.

what a waste of money

theaters are loud and crowded, ew!

sticky floors and popcorns on the seats when you can wait for your living room couch? no thanks

"hey baby wanna come over and see a movie i pirated" isn't as good as "hey baby wanna go to the theater to see a movie?"

But you can do a lot more fun things if she comes over to see a movie you pirated that you could in a theater...

Agreed, though. I used to go to movies 2-3 times a month before I was in my current long term relationship. Now I go to like 4-5 a year.

Sucks for you guys...afternoon viewings in my town are $2. sillydood;

Depends on the movie. I saw UP three times (with different friends) and I'll probably see Despicable Me a second time. <3

Yeah, there are a smattering of theaters here that have matinees for $2-3. There's even a couple I know that have evening shows for $2, but they're only old foreign films.

Waste of money in the theaters.

Otherwise, sometimes you have to. Like Primer.

All the time.I love the theater.
We have a really nice one in our town that (at least I dont think) isn't run by some massive chain, so the ticket prices are actually very reasonable, even at non matinee shows. It's a nice atmosphere there and it's always a nice thing to do with friends or the girl.

Besides that one, there's another smaller one attached to an art hall where they play local films or arthouse stuff. Lately, they've been playing a lot of old film noir, real good shit too. It's like two bucks a ticket when there's a local artist showing his or her film, but most other times it's free. It's a great little spot.
