The Party is not mere fun and games, as Andrew WK (and any knowing existentialist) will tell you. There's no time like the present, they say. That's what The Party represents: living in the moment, a triumphant affirmation of life. All 5 senses joyously burning bright with a heady mix of music, sex, and a diverse highway of chemicals- each offramp leading to who knows where. Silence and calm are for cemeteries. "We want life!" shouts The Party.

Parties are the genesis of freedom. To enter The Party is to claim your life as your own. What could be more subversive? Cops bust every party that they _know_ about. The loudest parties happen to be the only ones they can detect. It's no surprise that it was during the Reagan years that the Beastie Boys realized they must "Fight for your right to party".

The Party is open and tolerant. There's no one right way to do it. Kiss wanted to "rock and roll all night, and party every _day_". Quiet Riot saw things differently and wanted to "party all _night_". Eddie Murphy's girl insisted that she "party _all the time_". The truth echoes from this collage of voices.

Perhaps now we should heed Pink's plaintive plea to "get this party started". Enough with the cold analysis, for this is really about the heart and not the mind. Pop the cd in, crank the volume too loud and open your windows. An angry neighbor will arrive in 5 minutes. Open the front door, and let the cobwebs fall from their eyes, proving the naysayers wrong. And let them understand that when we party, indeed, we will "party hard".
