What does it bring to this table that I haven't seen a hundred times before?

Mashing everything good about other shows into one?

Kamina? He's loud and shouts to make up for his faults and immaturity. Obnoxious and simplistic.

It does many things adequately, but nothing great.

For loud, over the top mecha fightan, Gunbuster 2 is much more fun.
