Apparently many critics are Star Trek fans.

It was pretty good. I wasn't very impressed with anything, and a lot of scenes were either edited poorly or the effects weren't rendered well and there's a lot of bad acting

but as far as a sci-fi action movie goes it was very watchable. I have not seen other Star Trek movies so I can't comment on that part

I have no idea, but I feel like I'm obliged to watch it now that it has such a high score on RT.

rotten tomatoes is not a very reliable review aggregate

really? perfect sound effects? I noticed a lot of scenes where the sound editing was way off... they got like the lasers and space ships pretty good but stuff like doors and people walking and fighting was all cartoony and bad

It's still a highly credible review aggregator, in my experience.

true, I use metacritic
The sound effects were good, but i did also notice a few sound editing imperfections

I thought the simple noises were supposed to sound a little cartoony to preserve the feel of classic Star Trek.

Also, I just loved how they made space silent, much more realistic. And also the huge bass bang whenever they punched into light speed was pretty sick.
