I just picture a tired and depressed middle aged couple who tried for years to have a baby posing these in an effort to capture, for a moment, a feeling of having created a link in the familial chain.
And it works, until the moment after the picture is taken.
Then, that hollow, empty void as they sit in their living room at home, eating a tv dinner in front of Wheel of Fortune, not looking at each other while still trying to desperately avert their eyes from the baby's room, decorated in warm pink colors.

And in the middle of the night, when they cant sleep, they stand in the doorway of that room, looking in together at the stuffed animals and the crib the father built himself after hearing his wife was finally pregnant, one of the happiest moments of his blue collar life.

And even after months, they cant muster the will to tear that room apart. So it remains behind the closed door, gathering dust, a sealed tomb, a testament to the last vestige of hope they held at building a family.
