been wanting to replay lego rock raiders

Samus Aran

played through Layers of Fear today

it's pretty sick honestly, but it's a bit exhausting. and by that i mean that while it is really cool how the game cleverly changes the environment around you, has really interesting puzzles, has great atmosphere, and has a really cool narrative style (and an interesting story)...there's like no breathing room at all. scare after scare, rooms constantly changing one after another, almost no room is just a normal room and i got kinda tired of it by the last half hour or so. if this game was longer than 4 hours, it'd be a real problem. since it's a short game...it's a smaller problem. but it's still pretty significant. some of the less positive reviews for this game seem to echo this being an issue, however imo they make it out to be worse than it is.

still, it's a really cool game with some extremely clever design. solid package. just could have been a lot better than it is if it had any knowledge of the word "subtlety" lol. its like a 7.5/10 or smth boys

lol i played this shit and i thought the room-changing stuff was really neat and spooked me many a time, but i really disliked how little 'game' there actually is since you're basically just going from room to room with no challenges, which i can tolerate if there's a cool story to back it up, but i also couldn't care less about that in this game either. also the voice acting was really bad from what i remember, which turned up the corndog dial quite a bit.
i was hoping the second one was going to be better, but by most accounts its worse lol idk maybe if i can cop it for a dollar some day i'll try that one too

Samus Aran

Yeah I wish there was more actual interaction with things beyond "touching something and then the room changes"

Also ngl I think I was being too easy on the game it's rly more like a 7 at best lol but I did still like it plenty

I didn't actually think the voice acting was all that bad? It's definitely very exaggerated though. It was very similar to the the voice acting is in Amnesia

Samus Aran

had an itch for some relaxing elder scrolls-ing and i saw that there was a bundle on steam for morrowind, oblivion, and skyrim. i wasn't particularly looking to buy skyrim again rn because i doubt my pc can run it at good settings, but i was interested in replaying oblivion again and i've never played morrowind sooo...guess who's playing morrowind for the first time now.

thank god for graphic extension and bugfix mods

d i just bought this.

i haven't made it further than the second world so far tho

strongbad

i am super impressed with it. i looooooved spelunky hd and this is exactly what i wanted out of a sequel.

Samus Aran

still just morrowinding away

its nice to just lose myself in a game like this right now

The Hand That Fisted Everyone

beat Mario 64, Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze, and the dlc for Fire Emblem: Three Houses.

Mario 64 is still pretty fucking good but the damn camera is still the biggest obstacle in the game. Also launching Bowser into the spike bombs is a lot harder than I remember. The levels in the upper floors of the castle are pretty hit or miss, Tall Tall Mountain might be my favorite, and Tiny Huge Island being my least favorite.

Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze was pretty good. Really kind of felt like more of the same from the wii game, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. Just felt stale in some places.

The DLC for Fire Emblem is kind of bogus. Doesn't really add too much besides new characters (two that are OP and broken and two that are fucking useless) and explores the area underneath Garreg Mach that one of the NPCs hints at. The boss fight was pretty ok tho.

Samus Aran

ironically i feel like mario 64's "fixed" angles work better than some of the more free cameras from around the same time period (such as on ps1), as its camera doesn't USUALLY get stuck on things or go through the wall or anything goofy like that, it's just really grumpy and sometimes doesn't like the angle you want and drifts back to where it's comfortable instead. very cantankerous camera.

granted, other games came along and did things much better rather quickly, like banjo, but i still think mario 64's camera is really impressive for the time and the dev inexperience w/3d cameras, and i still think the idea of the camera literally being lakitu w/a camera is really clever

anyway, being as obsessed with the game's mechanics as i am, i felt a small need to comment on that  n_u

i want to play more melee online because it's amazing but it hurts my hands too much sooooo

https://frame1.gg/collections/all/products/frame1-light

preordered one of these (in pink lol) which should ship late 2020. i hear it takes a few months to relearn your muscle memory from a gcn controller but i think that'll be an interesting experience in and of itself

my heart is taking me back to melee

i think this will be good for traditional fighters and maybe even platformers too

Samus Aran

So the Steam version of Guilty Gear XXAC+R is getting a rollback netcode update soon, in six days. this is really big for people who enjoy this game, myself included, although I'm a total scrub at it of course. anyway, I copped it on Steam just to be able to have the version with the best online, and because it's been so long since I've played this and I wanted to jump back in. Did some fucking around in practice mode mostly but also played through the story for May, since I don't think I ever actually finished a character's story mode in this game before. Fun stuff.

On a related note, King of Fighters '02 Ultimate Match is in rollback beta right now on Steam and from what I hear the online runs like a dream now. Might get that soon too.
