[next to a turtle or a giant bear]: dog?
Visions of pickle... , therefore, Praise the pickle!
also yeah i've been having a blast, i just got it last night
its the best game ever
its also fucking hard as fuck!
l-l-love this game...! (can i join the cool kids' club)
it's like a giant Souls shitpost, it has homages and references to so many things from previous Souls games as well as Bloodborne, including things straight up lifted from them
also even more direct Berserk homages lol
good shit
i think the farthest i've gotten in a souls-game is the first boss in dark souls ages ago w/ notsid lol

may i present my guy, Sunburned Ringo Starr, borrowing Guts' sword
yes i absolutely must play these games with light load and i love big sword which means typically im fucking NAKEY
lemme know if anyone sees a big schlong mod cuz my guy literally having his dick out would be even funnier
soooo has anyone found where the berserk wolf head guy is and if so can you give me a hint?? he's on one of the loading screens and was in like all the trailers but i have yet to find him despite me thinking i've been pretty thorough in my exploration so far. i think the fact that i haven't found him is starting to affect other questlines even. if no one answers i'll just look it up but i like to try word-of-mouth before lame spoiler-filled walkthroughs

I assume you're talking about Blaidd?
INITIAL MEETING
- Inside Mistwood, the player can occasionally hear a wolf howl. At this point, they can ask Merchant Kale about the howling. The merchant will teach the player the Finger Snap gesture.
- Blaidd can be seen resting on the tallest point in the Mistwood Ruins, and will jump down after the player uses the gesture while standing below him. Blaidd will tell the player he is searching for a man who goes by the name "Darriwil".
https://eldenring.wiki.fextralife.com/Blaidd
I've been using the fextralife wiki to only look up immediately pertinent things and not spoil anything else for myself. It's mostly worked so far.
By the way - funny thing about Blaidd. He was for some reason immediately hostile for me, and I'd never even met him before. His spawn-in must've glitched and hurt him. I'll have to reset NPC hostility at the Church of Vows in order to do his quest.
That's not the only glitch I've encountered btw. There's a catacombs dungeon in Caelid, by the Minor Erdtree, called Minor Erdtree Catacombs (crazy, right?). In there, the stake of Marika doesn't work at all, and the entrance door glitches and locks you in the dungeon once you're inside, so you have to warp out once you're done lol
thx kaz, could have sworn i went to mistwood ruins but all i found was a giant bear and the cellar it was guarding. then again anything that requires a gesture is basically guaranteed confusion lmao
so i check out mistwood ruins again and blaidd is suddenly trying to kill me despite never having met him before, so i run away and absolve my sins to start his questline properly. it works but this also somehow spawns multiple other npcs into the world despite me already having been to their locations, including a blacksmith and a character who seems extremely fucking important to the story. what's the connection???? it's giving buggy vanilla skyrim vibes. why is this all still so vague and weirdly glitchy despite fromsoft having 13 years to reevaluate their npc/questline systems??? is this all because i killed his pet bear???????

lmfao blaidd was also hostile for me when i first went to the ruins, so apparently you had the same glitch i did
but yeah so, absolving sins apparently also revives npcs you killed, though i dont think it works for all of them
what do you mean by "spawns multiple other npcs into the world despite me having already been to their locations?" like, they weren't there in those spots before, but after absolving, they suddenly appeared there?
it's possible that the had already moved elsewhere, and that absolving reset them to their first spot or something? that's all i can think of i guess
i think what happened is those npcs don't exist in the world at all until you start blaidd's questline, so maybe absolving in particular didn't directly spawn them but it's still really dumb to have like 3 other npcs tied to an easily missable and glitchy one lol. especially when i've been looking for one of those npcs for a while for a completely different npc. i'm just gonna keep fextralife on hand from now on lmao
jesus fucking christ Radahn was such a pain in the fucking ass lol
i think it might have been okay if they cut out the fucking trivial arrow dodging bit that you have to do for the first 2 minutes of the fight EVERY TIME U DIE which is a lot because if he smacks you like once you're fucked lol
beat him after like 15 tries tho lel
did you use all the you-know-whats lying around? i used them plus godrick's great rune (via rune arc) plus being level 85 and did it in like 4 tries. without the you-know-whats i can imagine it being insane though.
lol u were almost 20 levels higher than I was
but yes i used the jolly cooperators
oh lol. well that's how open world rpgs can go. i was scared of caelid for a while so i did most of mt. gelmir and some of altus plateau before going back there. hell i'm STILL scared of the dragonbarrow area of caelid. i killed a ridiculous boss there that dropped something like 90k souls upon death and i was like yeahhhh this feels like an endgame zone.
i killed d*** e**** on sight and i don't feel bad about it. not even gonna look up if he does anything interesting i just really don't like him.
wow i probably really shouldn't have opened that door. i just wanted to see if there was a unique boss back there wtf???
m****** has to be the most infuriatingly designed superboss fight in souls history. i absolutely hate it lol
hey nyerp check this out
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gLgnErUzYIE
i saw that lol. the same thing happened to me and until literally just now i thought that was what was supposed to happen?? but it's not and it's actually supposed to enter phase 2 what???? this game is kind of a mess lmao
from what i understand, the deerbro is supposed to "die" as a sort of teleport move, but he just failed to respawn after initiating it i guess lmao
speaking of bosses glitching out.......i regret nothing:
(SPOILERS for aforementioned superboss)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KCGtQP0GNVY
i think this is the glitchiest souls game
beat it. got the 'second' ending
this game is such a mess that they accidentally patched out the path to get this weapon https://eldenring.wiki.fextralife.com/Cinquedea
i hate souls games now. soulSHIT games are trash
well 1.05 just dropped and it says this in the patch notes:
QuoteFixed a bug that causes the playable character to die when trying to descend from a spot near Bestial Sanctum
so i assume it's obtainable again, will find out for myself in a bit
yeah it's fixed, just picked up that weapon as well as the talisman down there
oh......
i think i've completely lost interest in yui tanimura's version of souls (directed ds2, co-directed ds3 and elden ring). des, ds1, bb and sekiro all lacked his influence and were much better for it. sad that his games are always the highest selling and/or massively popular ones, but i'll be treating his name as a red flag from now on.
??? elden ring rules lol
i generally agree that dark souls 2 is a weak point and that 3 was lacking in a lot of ways (but ends up being considerably better than 2 overall imo)
but i've been loving elden ring for nearly 130 hours now and i'm sure i'll continue to
i do think there are some things they could improve with further patching, of course. for example, npc markers are a good idea, but they don't give you any indication of where an npc will move to next after you've exhausted their current dialogue, so ultimately for npc questlines, having a guide/wiki is still basically essential and that's rather annoying
i love dark souls 2 lol

p good when i can dodge literally everything due to godlike iframes
also beat elden ring today. v good game tho i think the second half meanders a bit (but not enuff to make it not good!)

yeah thats the thing though, having to put levels into something that should just be there to begin with, while also making it so that if you put a LOT of levels into it, you ascend to dodge godhood
the adaptability stat is frankly one of the biggest reasons i don't like dark souls 2 nearly as much
mechanically, it's just such a bizarre and unbalanced change that frankly changes the entire game around itself in ways i really dont like. like how most of the bosses in that game are very slow (presumably) in order to compensate for players with low adaptability, making it so that actually the dodge roll becomes less useful to begin with because so many attacks can just be sidestepped. effectively mitigating the usefulness of an entire mechanic outright.
it's just such a bizarre change lol, and slows the game down so much all for the sake of an extra stat to balance the game around that didn't actually need to be there to begin with
ANYWAY that's all i really have to say on that elden ring rules
Eh you can spend like 20 minutes pumping levels into it once you realize that's why the game feels goofy compared to ds1 and then it has parity to ds1's mechanics and you can ignore it forever after that
Not saying I think it's the best big-brain shit ever or anything but I always thought it's kinda funny that people rag on it like it's not some shit you can't fix in like a fraction of a percentage of your playtime. Should you have to? I guess not but these games have tons of dumb shit I shouldn't HAVE to waste my time on if you want to split hairs lol
Also none of these games have perfect balance anyway, they can all be broken in like 50 ways to Sunday if you Google how to lol, and elden ring is probably the worst offender in that category (not that I give a shit play how you want)
Onion Ring
now im looking back at all the stuff i missed even though its bosses i'll either crush in like 4 hits and/or a different version of a boss i already killed lol
part of me wants to cleanup and part of me is like nah lol
personally i have pretty meticulously done everything available in the game, barring some minor items and things i missed due to doing npc stuff a bit fucky, more or less as they were reasonably available without skipping anything at all, and have been using the fextralife map to make sure i have not missed any areas to explore and bosses to fight
currently i'm at about 175 hours, and have done nearly everything, except for miquella's haligtree and the final moments of the main game after gideon

looking at what your playtime was, i assume you didn't do the hidden areas. the consecrated snowland and the haligtree and mohgwyn palace and such. if that's the case you definitely have plenty of stuff still to do that is actually very very difficult and will in fact crush you in four hits rather than the other way around lol. worth it though imo, some of the best stuff in this game is hidden. mohg and placidusax especially imo
but maybe you did do em in which case nvm lol, my play time is just hyper inflated by doing literally everything i can
Quote from: Samus Aran on April 03, 2022, 06:10:06 PMthe consecrated snowland and the haligtree and mohgwyn palace and such.
i did all these places lol melania was the biggest piece of shit in the game lmao
i have a couple underground areas i think that i missed? and the sewer mohg. and the godskin noble solo fight lol
malenia is by far the hardest boss in the game yeah lol, took me 23 tries
okay i went back and fought dragonlord placidusax cuz i didnt do that, that was a good one to do, fun fight
hell yeah, imo its the coolest dragon fight from has ever designed, love the sound design and the spectacle of it
placidusax is one of the few post-leyndell bosses i don't hate
what is "post-leyndell"? like strictly part of the story post-leyndell? or ANYTHING once you have the rold medallion? either way theres lots of great ones, ur wack as hell nyerp
fire giant, mohg, malenia, placidusax, malekith, hoarah loux
all great imo
godskin duo legitimately sucks though, won't argue there
i've spent 20 hours of gametime getting summoned for those bosses (except fire giant because i genuinely never want to fight that piece of shit again) (and placidusax because nobody can find him lol) just to make sure if i really hate them or not and yeah my opinion didn't really change. i had more fun fighting the final boss again than any of those. the main reasons are that they have obnoxious healing gimmicks/status effect spam that seem particularly designed to fuck over people who use shields and that they constantly jump away/have lightning fast instakill moves that are designed to fuck over people who use strength weapons with long recovery animations. more than any previous souls, the game feels balanced around abusing stuff like magic, summons and fucking cringe bleed katana builds and other cheap shit. just not my preferred style of play. wish they'd just make more honest aggression-focused games like bloodborne or sekiro instead of even more demon's souls BUT WE MADE THE ENEMIES EVEN FASTER PREPARE TO ROLL 8 TIMES OOPS THE ENEMY HAD AN UNNATURALLY LONG WINDUP ANIMATION SO YOU DIED 12
well i wont deny that malenia absolutely cant really be fought with a shield at all and that is kinda annoying
but the others absolutely can, as long as you're also willing to dodge when blocking isn't a great idea. i abused guard counter quite a lot for both mohg and godfrey/hoarah loux since there's a lot of slow attacks in their kits and im using a good shield upgraded to have a good guard boost (brass shield +23)
malekith though i didnt really guard counter at all, just went for big punishes with the parry claw you can use on his fight and otherwise simply blocked or dodged/ran away from everything else lol
i am not really the type to use magic very much in this game, except sometimes rot breath to speed up the first phases of some fights (or to speed up fire giant in general cause i was using a fire sword for that fight which ended up not being great lmao). oh and sometimes a cheeky lightning spear or golden order to boost my attacks a bit
been playing this game 99% melee the whole way and i've enjoyed it immensely
anyway i went ahead and beat the final boss now. 204 hours.
when i play ng+ at some point i'll get the remembrance items i dont already have as well as try to pick up any extra little things i wasnt able to get on ng, and get the last ending, frenzied flame. was locked out of being able to even do this ending on my first playthrough because vyke won't invade you if certain field bosses in are dead apparently?? there's still ongoing research to figure out why he won't invade so many people's games lol
but ya phenomenal game
huh? i thought you could do the frenzied flame ending without doing hyetta's questline. i know she shows up down there if you give her all the eyes but you can definitely still open the spooky door without her (i know because vyke broke for me too and i was still able to open the door myself with the help of gesture messages without knowing the consequences).
also wait how are you getting multiple endings in one run anyway???? save backups?? im stupid
personally i'm waiting for further patches before i rush through ng+ and ++ because, no joke, the game launched with npcs missing (the jar kid in jarburg) and unfinished questlines (nepheli loux and kenneth haight just froze in place despite you doing stuff that should clearly make them act; diallos just completely disappeared from the game after a certain point). i've seen speculation that lady tanith's quest is also unfinished as of now as she has absolutely no reaction to being given a key item that you get from an npc in the shaded castle (which is an area i never want to do again lmao). i have no idea what else could be missing and i don't want to do weird obscure quests on ng+ so it would be GREAT if fromsoft would announce if there is any npc content left to be patched in at this point please!!!!!

oh lmao i didnt know that oops
and yeah i was using save backups
lol my final goal was to help at least one person win the malenia fight, and god damn every fucking host is laggy as shit i constantly get inputs dropped and she'll just zoom around the arena lmao shit
any1 else play the dlc? it was p. good
i still have yet to finish it because ive mostly only been playing it when i stream which has been pretty rare
ive liked some parts of it a lot so far but so far the spread of bosses has been hit or miss to me, tho to be fair it seems like some of them i did with a scadutree blessing that was one or two levels too low
the general guy riding the boar is kinda busted, some attacks of his hit you for 2x damage for seemingly no reason other than glitching or hit/hurtbox issues and i kinda just hate him tbh
i thought the dancing lion was really cool!!
