Question:
"""Polyamorous""" and promiscuous are synonyms.
Option 1: True
votes: 2
Option 2: False
votes: 3
Change my mind.
Anyone who votes "false" is obligated to justify him or herself.
I don't even think poly people would debate you on this, but they also wouldn't see promiscuity as a negative.
Although the argument against would be that I'm sure some, if not most (I'm really not sure) poly relationships are more focused on intimacy than sex, and people in said relationships would be cautious to enter the sexual stage of a relationship if they're already involved with someone.
So honestly I'm gonna say false just because they're not inherently tied even though they often go together, sure.
False because promiscuous usually means a lot of short-term sexual encounters that typically don't overlap, while polyamory is more like multiple concurrent romantic relationships that may or may not last a long time.
Certainly there's frequent overlap, and like popsi said I doubt most polyamorous people would look down on promiscuity
Polyamory is like "I'm in committed romantic relationships with two people at the same time and we're all fine with it", promiscuous is like "hey I just met you but we're both single so let's fuck" and a mixture of both is like "I'm in an open relationship so my gf won't mind if I sleep around a bit"

all of this exactly
obviously promiscuity doesn't HAVE to mean you're having a lot of short-term sexual encounters, but that's generally the implication. and that's never the implication with polyamory.
but also, this:

anyway i kinda thought this was a no-brainer tbh, even if you were to simply go by their typical dictionary definitions, they're different enough to warrant a distinction
I still don't believe it works if all involved have any sense of self wortu
damn, real judgmental hours
alright fine you turbothots, i will concede that, going by the dictionary definition, polyamorous and promiscuous don't have literally identical meanings
modified argument: in practice, polyamorous is used as a euphemism for promiscuous/poly
fuck;
erous 99% of the time
CHANGE MY MIND
and may i present to you a humorous anecdote from some highly defensive """poly""" rando's blog:
Quote from: https://bisexual.org/im-polyamorous-not-promiscuous/When I tell people that I’m poly they tend to assume that I am having orgies, one night stands, and some crazy kinky sex all the time. Now, I have nothing against any of these things per se, and I won’t say I’ve never indulged, but [...]
i lol'd

QuoteJealousy, Block theorizes, is a social construct based on the notion that husbands own their wives, and is thus "much more recent, evolutionarily speaking, than the competition that turns guys on. That's why it's mostly intellectuals who are into cuckolding: because other guys are crippled by jealousy. They're aroused and upset and don't know why."

Sorry Tec!
I disagree with that guy though because jealousy seems far more primal and instinctual than socially constructed. Which oddly would still sort of fit his theory that intellectuals are more able to suppress such a concern
i think you had a valid point tbqh lol
