can someone, in simple culinary terms, give me a single comprehensive definition of the word "salad"
please and thank you
i would say a loose mixture of various ingredients that are prepared separately and then combined, typically in a bowl, and often with a binding agent like a sauce or dressing
a mixture of various small foods that are prepared separately (if at all) before being combined, served typically either as a side, an appetizer, or a dessert (in the case of fruit salads). the mixture is predominantly vegetables, or in some cases fruits.
that's how i would describe it, in a way similarly to hiro
what about pasta salad
pasta salad is an abomination and does not count
potato salad > chicken salad > pasta salad/green salad/coleslaw > tuna salad > egg salad > ambrosia salad > fruit salad

there are only three scandinavian traditional foods that are common in northern minnesota, one of them being the aforementioned glorified rice, and the other two being lefse and lutefisk. lefse is great, lutefisk is some nasty shit.
bunch of shit mixed with green leafy vegetables
or bunch of shit mixed with mayonnaise
Something that starts off health to which you add a bunch of stuff that is less than healthy but it keeps its health moniker
Fuck a salad. Fuck a job.

I've discovered the answer.
If you add hot broth to any salad, it becomes soup. Salad is soup without liquid.
I will now be taking questions.
sauce is a liquid
Yeah
