Title: pedantry
Post by: Kalahari Inkantation on July 15, 2017, 11:23:44 PM
What petty things are you perhaps unreasonably pedantic about? y/n

for example, i screech whenever i see someone use 2k to mean 2.5k (as in, the 1440p video resolution)

also, the sm*rtasses who pluralize octopuses """octopi""" because it sounds correct

it isn't smithicide;

When people get triggered by what I say, and then tell me I'm the one being petty.

literally vs. figuratively
affect vs. effect
should of
could care less

people who horizontally stretch something originally in 4:3 on a 16:9 screen

"so what is it you listen to, heavy metal?" nah fam that subgenre of metal has been dead since the late 80's

i will admit to abusing the word literally a lot 5thgrade;

i would argue that your other three grammatical examples are all too practical to be considered pedantic, but then again, i'm extremely pedantic

i could see myself irritating a hrdxxre music person to figurative death out of ignorance with little mistakes like that last one lol

the whole "have been" thing, when you're talking about a locale or a destination and someone says they "have been" with no other words after that. I am highly averse to British-isms and infiltration of Euro culture in general so I always make a point to look confused/offended and prompt the individual to explain what they have been, exactly...?

We won't even go into other Britishisms

these ones get me
also when people refer to any Disney park as "Disney" instead of saying "Disneyland", "Disney World" etc

i'll use any excuse i can to get pedantic as fuck tbh

I most often find myself biting my tongue on "less" vs. "fewer" though.

also every time i see the wrong resolution being used on a family member's tv i always have to offer to fix it, otherwise i can't sleep knowing that the image is so badly distorted smithicide;

I've done it. Had my ps3 hooked up to a crt once, and the console was set to 16:9. It looked funny
