to add to what i said before, some characters are wildly more difficult to play than others, so keep that in mind
i'd say in order from easiest to hardest on that list would be:
Pharah
Soldier: 76
McCree
Tracer
Genji
(Widowmaker)
(Hanzo)
the last two are sniper characters so it's a total crapshoot skill-wise and nobody will like you if you play them even if you're good at it
so
just main symmetra so you dont have to aim
i mean, winston is far more useful and you still don't have to aim

Well it probably depends on the game too. Mario Kart or some other party game is going to be random as hell and skill only takes you so far. OW, Counterstrike, LoL, DoTA, Rocket League are less random and more skilled players will consistently defeat less skilled players. If exploits are found in those games they are patched out.
If anyone is playing these games competitively they're unlikely to have poor internet or else yeah there's no point because you'd be so disadvantaged
