what the fuck?
now if only america could wise up and ban assault dogs
I mean Vietnam eats dogs and steals them from their owners in neighboring countries so I'm going with no
that's so fucking awful wtf
this isn't unique to Montreal though
I think some cities in america have done the same

taking dogs from their owners and eating them is fucked but there is totally nothing wrong with eating dogs esp if you already eat other animals
idk

regardless, just send me all the pitbulls i'll take care of em
you just dont understand we have to protect everyone from any and every harm. one time a pitbull looked at me angrily. that's just unacceptable.

eating dogs doesn't bother me
Stealing them from their owners is what's fucked. Wouldn't be okay to steal someone's potbelly pig, fatten it up, and slaughter it for bacon either
I
AGREE

you're not entitled to own any sort of property not permitted by the government tho
Maybe in Canada where ex post facto laws can apply in civil law

true. Licensed pit bulls should be grandfathered in
I'm just upset they didn't do this with pugs, chihuahuas, shih tzus, pomeranians, and yorkies
Ooh can we make the penalty for not picking up after your dog death by firing squad? That'd be neat
Same
Also there isn't really a precise biological definition for what is or isn't a pit bull
Oh well guess we gotta kill them all

looked it up, they will be grandfathered so long as they get licensed and spayed
So nbd
Fuck Montreal. They need to do their due diligence before making laws like that. akudood;
PIT BULL STRONG.
Felt they have to be on a four foot leash, muzzled and a lot of other stuff to be legal. People with lower incomes can't afford all the regulations needed.
If they can't afford that they shouldn't have a dog imo
I don't really care about the law but of 34 fatal dog attacks in the US last year, 28 were pit bulls. It's not like these laws come outta nowhere
well this is more stringent than similar american city ordinances
montreal needs to be broken up even more
Under the law, people who own dogs deemed pit bulls have until March to undergo a criminal background check and pay $150 for a special permit. Their dog will have to be sterilized, vaccinated and microchipped â€"as well as muzzled and on a 4-foot leash at all times in public.
But pit bull-type dogs currently in city shelters need not apply. Under the ban â€" which loosely covers American pit bull terriers, American Staffordshire terriers and Staffordshire bull terriers â€" no dog considered a pit bull can be adopted from Montreal shelters.
"For dogs that don't have an 'owner' on the day of the passing of the legislation, the way the legislation is drafted, the dogs have to be euthanized," Alanna Devine, of the Montreal SPCA, told The Dodo last week.
Just not right.
This law pertains to any dog deemed to be a pit bull. Mixed breeds included. I have had 4 pit bulls or pit mixes and not one of them shows any sign of aggression.
The ban got suspended
Meanwhile, Ontario has already had pitbulls banned from the entire province since 2005
