so i don't talk about my life much on boyah these days, but a few of you may remember that i posted briefly in the chat thread a while back about how i hit a deer with my 2006 grand prix. this was like four weeks ago. it ripped up the bumper and fender on the driver's side a good deal, as well as bent the hood badly enough so that it wouldn't sit flush anymore. had to tape around the left blinker to get it back into place but it was still working. one bulb in the front left headlight was annihilated, as well as most of the casing for said headlight in general. also, took out the passenger side wiper blade but that's negligible. i was only going about 50 when i hit it, so this kept the damage from being any worse than it was. the deer hit the front left and rolled up the windshield before flying off my car to parts unknown (never found the deer).
soooo that was a thing that happened.
and then a mere week and one day ago, my rampant bad luck struck again. and i hit another fucking deer. ANOTHER DEER. what are the fucking odds? anyway, this deer finished my front end off. the grill fucking shattered, along with the left headlight assembly. the left fender and bumper are even more torn up now. the hood hand-latch completely broke so now my hood does not shut at all. it's currently held down by two bungee cords. upon impact with the deer, the hood flew open and hit the windshield, creating fracture points at the bottom and top of the passenger side, so technically i'm still legal in that regard. sure is illegal to drive without a headlight though.
so now my car is a loss, especially when you consider it also has an unknown problem causing an occasional (but increasing in frequency) reduced engine power error, as well as a back driver's side window that's stuck all the way down. so those two things, plus an estimated $2100 in front end repairs (not including the windshield, so really it's even more). and these repairs would be used parts likely completely different colors from my current paint job. it seems worthless to me to attempt to repair this thing. even if currently i only got enough done on it to make it legal and safe to drive, eventually i'd need the windshield done too, plus the window issue and who knows what the fuck is causing that engine power error (best case scenario: air filter)
anyway here she is, tape and bungee cords and all:

akudood; akudood; akudood; akudood; akudood;
so yeah now i'm surfing craigslist for a used car for like $2400 or less lol. surprisingly large amount of pretty promising options for something that is hopefully going to last at least long enough until i can afford something better. tons of pontiacs (especially sunfires for some reason?) and ford taurus...es...tauri?
how long has the rear window been completely down? when i was there it was just barely stuck open myface;
you have really shitty luck with cars i'm sorry, kaz. also do you have an affinity for pontiacs?
http://minneapolis.craigslist.org/hnp/cto/5684343561.html
i'd hard ball him down to $1-1.2k since the thing has so many fuck; ing miles also make sure to ask the fucker about the timing belt and other common VAG problems
i wouldn't say i have an "affinity" for pontiacs, but there are a TON of them at good price ranges because they were so popular for so long as entry-level sedans and coupes, so they're a good bet. the downside is, of course, they don't exist anymore lol

the red sunfire is worrisome, a car sitting for that long is bound to have issues no mater how 'new' the engine may be

jelly of what? the deer?
of course, if i manage to get a loan i can spend more, but right now i'm trying to see hwat i can find for what i have available
i think i would go for the passat or the honda accord
well i only just now noticed (somehow) that the accord has a dick ridiculous amount of miles on it. the passat is what i'm really leaning toward right now of course. david lucked out finding one with so few miles on it
yeah, you should set up a test drive of it. have to owner come along with you, get on the freeway, go up a hill etc to test it out

i had texted him asking if there's any mechanical issues in the car that he's aware of, and he simply texted back, "nice car. runs great." which doesn't entirely answer the question.
and uh lol i've been looking into common issues with the Passat and it's not looking pretty myface;
if you go to /o/ there is a VIN check thread. Dude will check VINs for you and give you the vehicle report. Tells you the status of the title etc.

" i keep hitting the deers so i will buy the car better for hurting the deers "
you can just be more careful akudood;
lol
it's just bad luck and being in the wrong place at the wrong time. deer are more active during dusk/sunset hours than during daylight or absolute darkness. this is when i hit the first deer. the second deer can be pretty much blamed on where i was. a little highway surrounded on either side by dense forest, so when the deer came out onto the road it came from a place where i couldn't have seen it coming. i probably won't be using that route anymore lol
Kaz, you should buy one of the several jellybean F-150s for sale so you and John can be vehicle buddies

serious question:
why not get a moped, or even just a decent commuter bicycle?
you could easily get a moped and A+ rain gear and it would come out leagues cheaper than a car with way less future money to be spent on gas an maintenance. i could say the same thing about bikes but if you're commuting 20 miles each way that is a harder sell. then for long distances you either have adventurous moped journeys or you just take a bus
because i do a lot more with my car than commute.
