my mom would buy whatever was on sale
fortunately the name brands were on sale p. often
i was okay with some generics, but not with some others; generic corn/frosted flakes were good but generic fruit rings were tasteless and generic honey nut oat rings tasted like [what] piss [smells like]
Both. If generic tasted good mom would buy that. Otherwise name brand or else no one would eat it.
my parents to this day buy name brand. i guess status? i've never really inquired, and they've always been upper middle class anyway so that makes sense to me
i always buy generic cuz i dont give a shit and i like saving dollars here n there
Generic when my mom was single and we were poor, then name brand because my step dad won't eat anything generic because he's spoiled. I remember paying for that $400 grocery bill....
$400? I think we paid slightly less in hawaii but we had the commissary to rely on so...
Either or, I guess whatever was on sale I guess? More often it was name brand though. We rotated through cereals because we'd get bored of eating the same thing. Trends in our family included:
Life, Wheaties, Trix, Corn Flakes, Frosted Flakes, Cheerios, Honey Nut Cheerios, Apple Cinnamon Cheerios, Basic 4, Grape Nuts, Apple Jacks, Reese's Puffs, Cinnamon Toast Crunch, Crispix, Chex, Kix, Berry Berry Kix, Raisin Bran, Rice Krispies
On a side note, Honey Smacks, Sugar/Golden Crisp, Cocoa/Fruity Pebbles, and Froot Loops are all garbage akudood;

commissaries tend to have lower quality produce than local grocery stores (the ones in naval base guam, anyway- though the nearest local grocery store off base barely has a selection of anything so I stick to the commissary).
my parents would only go on base to get something that's not produce and that is cheaper than buying at say, Albertsons or Safeway. It was usually soda or something.
