New video today:

Starters: Rowlet (Grass/Flying owl), Litten (Fire-type cat thing), Popplio (Water-type seel)
The new cover legendaries are also shown but not named. Sun is Lion-like, Moon is Bat-like, both heavily Space-themed.
The game takes place in the new Alola region, which seems pretty tropical
We get to see the new default protagonist designs
Each protagonist has 4 skin color options (up from X/Y's 3), so outfit customization is also probably likely
The overworld now has more realistic non-chibi proportions
Battle system looks pretty much the same as X/Y unsurprisingly
Release date: November 18 (Japan and US), November 23 (Europe)
Sukemon Dung and Poon
jesus i can't believe they designed the worst starters ever

this game looks generic af
like i wouldn't be surprised if the hometown is basically a knockoff of destiny island
clucky is cat
felt is bird
notsid is dogseal
tfw grass starter is handicapped because it's 4x weak to ice and is basically pidgey tier

actually really like all 3, I'll have to wait for the evolutions before I decide
also Sun's legendary mascot is pretty solid, Moon's is bleh
Cat looks like it'll have dark/fire dual typing so it's basically lit houndour tier
Curious if the water starter will have dual typing or it's just be literally seel

Dewgong is Water/Ice. Unless they choose Ice again, it won't be the same as Seel.

oh forgot about that ty
i hope it's not water ice but that's a really useful typing tbh
could be water/fairy?????
Like i wouldn't be surprised the evolutions use clown imagery so we could veer towards some mr. mime hybrid
Didn't sun and moon used to be joke or fakes way back in the day?
not that i recall no
Owl = seal > cat
Will i need that new 3ds
Well I'm kind of disappointed the graphics and style so closely mimic x and y. I know it's the same system and 3d doesn't leave as much room for interpretation as 2d sprites but still. Maybe just the similarity of the protagonists to last Gen is what really gets me.
I actually really like all of the starters, especially in motion. The owl head turn is cool, the cat arches its back and licks itself, and the sea lion (not a bloody seel akudood; ) is super fun. I didn't like the sea lion at first glance since it is like a clown but in motion it really looks like a sea lion from a circus or sea world show. Funny guy. I'll have to decide based on the final forms or types. Can't remember the last time I liked all 3 starters to be honest.
Legendaries seem kind of over designed to me but maybe they'll grow on me. Just kind of feels like they have too many bells and whistles. Reminds me of dialga and palkia (ironically also cosmic) but I do like these more than those two. Heavy lean towards the lion, the bats just too flat and disklike for me

that doesn't make any sense. it wouldn't be "houndour tier" unless its stats, abilities, and moves were also similar. but yes it would be the same types obviously
anyway i'm mostly indifferent toward the starter designs this time around. i don't like or dislike them much. i guess i like the cat the most.
They all suck. Worst starters since the one gen with the damn monkey.
I kid, but srsly, they're pretty lame this time.

Also clearly the games are based off Hawaii with the look and name Alola (aloha)
Like people have said looks like Litten would be fire/dark which I'd be happy with especially if it plays differently than houndoom (physical maybe). My guess at the seel would be it gains fairy type mostly based off having a pink ball and being whimsical
do you keep spelling seal incorrectly on purpose? like to make a joke that it's just a seel knockoff?
also is there really any point to the grass/flying typing other than the fact it's a rare type combination? it's a strategically awful combination

I don't think Nintendo really cares about its strategic value. I mean most starters, at least before mega evolution, are rubbish competitively anyway.

btw, japanese trailer was much more better jfc
Pipplio looks really dumb imo but I like Rowlet.
Shame because I have always like the water starter best before now.
gen 4 and 5 had the weakest starters for sure but gen 6 had fucking chespin which takes it down in my ratings quite a bit too

Fun poll wrench;
My top 5 were:
Dewatt
Typhlosion
Wartortle
Empoleon
Toreterra

imo gen5 was a generation of disappointing starter evolutions
I liked Dewott and Servine designs better than Samurott and Serperior. I would have preferred if they both stayed bipedal.
Tepig turned into yet another Fire/Fighting starter, with a horrendous level-up moveset, while neither of the others even got any second type.
my overall preference of the starters, including evolutions, is probably something like: 6 > 3 > 1 > 2 > 4 > 5

Agreed, I love love love Dewatt but his evolution just doesn't even seem close to his previous 2 stages. Hell it's not even based on a similar animal at that point. And 3 fire fightings in a row was ridiculous. Serperior is alright by me but he's just kind of meh. Not great not bad almost forgettable
My top five were:
The entire Froakie line
Dewott
Blastoise
Also can I just say that I like Chespin, but his evolutions are garbaggio
oshawott was a cute starter tho tbh
froakie 2nd
I like chespin too I actually voted him my top grass starter
But both his evolutions came in last place for their categories
I voted froakie last in water starters too :x
imo
starters (excluding evos for now)
2>1>5>3>7>6>4

yeah p. much same though froakie was 6th for me, totodile is last. I really like oshawott and dewott but samurott sucks
my top five:
ivysaur
wartortle
quilava
dewott
bayleef
treecko, litten, and squirtle were solid contenders too
there are no bad water starters
think about it
Froakie was initially the least popular too we'll see if it stays that way

Maybe but you wouldve thought that about Fletchling too hocuspocus;
flabebe was more usable though

i saw a commercial for the new pokemon games at the cinema before disney's moana
why do you think they both went for polynesian themes

do you think pokemon go existed just to give people a chance to get the original forms of these pokemon
I'm liking the whole elite four thing-like kahunas being incremental lol
also z-moves look useful
using stat changing moves might be required in this game though with the horde bosses
fucking giraffe exeggutor tho lmfao
yeah and making it a dragon type instead of psychic is silly and crippling
though i like alola ninestails being fairy type but it'll be very weak against steel types

you can hardly see it in battle rofl
also looks like hm field moves like fly and surf may be a thing of the past???
solar blade looks like a neat ordinary move so i might get the grass starter just for that
also it seems that a pokemon doesn't have to be the same typing to use a z-move
they just need to know a move of the same type as the z-crystal and hold it
it seems they are moving away from mega evolutions with the alolan forms

same, i'm loving the z-moves and alolan forms.
i wonder if we'll get much for new megas
So some new pokemon and Alolan forms leaked today: http://www.serebii.net/
I always thought Marowak should get a ghost type evo because of the Lavender Town incident, but this works too :3
tfw purrloin is rendered obsolete
I wonder if Alolan Persian will gain a secondary type though because I tend to hate most single dark typing pokemon
probably still useless for competitive battles but I guess it's a useful midgame pokemon
though I think alolan marowak is crippling because its stance still implies it's a physical attacker and there aren't many physical fire and ghost type moves
meh still weak to water and is now weak to earthquake
sandcastle pokemon is cool
looks cool but i want to know about its moveset, stats, and abilities
Probably still disappointing because ghost/ground don't usually compliment each other and ghost is mostly special attack moves while ground tends to be mostly physical

Perhaps but I think the final island leader uses a Marowak so they should give it some sort of moves to make it a worthy opponent
Fair endgame boss I guess

egads
should have been fairy type tbh
if electric terrain is in play, alolan raichu's speed doubles
i guess that makes raichu somewhat useful but you have to have it setup first and raichu didn't know it last gen
also I dislike that one fish Pokemon that only pseudoevolves and takes up an ability slot because they can only fit so many Pokemon into the cartridge
I hope they fix the bad egg errors that spontaneously happen too
idk alolan raichu doesn't look that bad
it looks too similar to audino
that is true but i maintain that its design isn't that bad and also it's cute how it surfs on its tail

You of all people should know I don't know everything about pokemon anyway, for the existing water/elec type. Who are some water/elec types.
chinchou, lanturn, wash form rotom
that's all of them so basically not represented well currently
kaz, funny how you mention electric eels because they chose to make the only electric eel pokemon pure electric for balancing purposes
it had such a bullshit ability too like levitate so it virtually had no weaknesses with its speed being the main shortcoming

sure electric/water sounds great on paper because electric types tend to be fast and ground types tend to be slow but they usually have poor defenses and earthquake is so common among faster non-ground pokemon
but it might have some viability in battles that aren't single battles because earthquake targets all pokemon in the field

yeah but on the other hand electric only resists itself and flying too. God I wanted to love elektross but its too damn slow and not sturdy enough or strong enough to overcome it except if it's allowed to coil for some reason
yeah I didn't get its movepool either

I'm a very casual poke player. I don't know all of the intricacies.
Is bug weak to flying?
Is ground weak to rock or vice versa?
Also, it's been a long time since I played gen 1 fully, so I don't remember a lot about that either.
Also also, I don't play competitively, so I don't really know the intricacies of abilities and shit
Yes
Rock (and poison) is weak to ground actually
the only ground types in gen I were either rock or poison types
raichu's my favorite pokemon, this form weirded me out at first and i kind of hated it but i think it's kinda cute now

Is bug weak to flying?
Is ground weak to rock or vice versa?
Also, it's been a long time since I played gen 1 fully, so I don't remember a lot about that either.
Also also, I don't play competitively, so I don't really know the intricacies of abilities and shit
birds eat bugs so ya
Idk why rock is weak to ground

they already showed Drampa, who I think is great. Normal/dragon is such a goofy typing. Plus Exeggutor, if you count that.
Drampa is pretty goofy looking but I wouldn't say I dislike him

Maractus Evo plz

Starters first evolutions were revealed today :o
I just became more of a Rowlett fan. Still somewhat leaning Litten. Popoplio just got worse for me although it's not a bad design just not my thing
Actually after seeing them in motion Litten > Popoplio > Rowlett.
Littens Evo is such a perfect cat it's awesome. The popstar actually looks way better in motion just like her pre evo. Rowletts evo is too foppish in motion :/
Still hope the "leaked" final starter evos are not real
I equally like both Rowlet and Litten and its evolutions aesthetically so far
Popplio's the runt tbh
I think the concepts that were shown of the final evos would fit at least popplio's and rowlet's style
with respect to utility, I might choose popplio just because its final evolution is likely a water/fairy type just by looking at its motif (clown)
Rowlet's will stay grass/flying (archer)
the designs of all three second forms are pretty good tbh but i still want litten
i just hope its third form is not a literal fire lion, please just make it a bigger fancier cat or a tiger or something because we've already got lions

rowlet is the best looking to me but i might have to choose popplio just because it will have the best typing lol
part of the reason i often choose the fire type starter is because tbh there are often no good fire types to catch for most of the game. idk why but every gen does this. serious lack of catchable fires before late game
the only times I chose a fire starter was my simultaneous run in Pokemon silver when I chose totodile in Pokemon gold as well
and when I chose fennekin this gen because it didn't evolve into yet another fire/fighting final evo
best hope is to pray for some split evo gimmick
I usually tend to pick and prefer fire starters, but I disliked Tepig. Fire is just such a good type for a lot of trainers you run into during the story.
I'm still a little undecided on my starter choice for Sun/Moon. They all look fairly nice.

Kanto and Johto have nothing but Flareon until late-game
Hoenn has Numel and Slugma
Sinnoh has only Ponyta (and more in Platinum)
Unova has Pansear, Darumaka, and Litwick (also BW had a Victini mystery gift at launch)
Kalos has Fletchinder, Litleo, and Pansear
There's a few, but the options are very limited. Kanto put all the fire-types on Cinnabar and Johto put them all (even the new ones) in Kanto. Hoenn and Unova threw a few near the 4th gym. Sinnoh kicked them all out of the regional dex entirely (poor Flint).
It doesn't help that like half of all fire-types are either starters or legendaries.

In both Kanto and Johto you can catch Growlithe and Vulpix around midgame. Routes 7 and 8 have them in Kanto (you can get them right after Rock Tunnel before Celadon and your 4th gym badge). In Johto Route 36 has them meaning you can get them by the time you get to Goldenrod (3rd Gym) or even as soon as you get to Violet Town (first gym) in Crystal. Granted, you couldn't get a fire stone until you got to Bill's house in Celadon in the original Gold and Silver so you were stuck with the base forms... couldn't even evolve Eevee into anything but Umbreon or Espeon.
But yeah they make fire pokemon too far and in between really. I remember disliking Gen IV especially because Chimchar was basically a Torchic repeat and the only other option was Ponyta

I forgot Johto had such a terrible lack of fire stones, but I also forgot they had Growlithe/Vulpix. It's strange that G/S put Slugma, Houndour, and a lot of other new "Johto" Pokémon exclusively in Kanto. Sinnoh's D/P fire shortage is definitely the worst, with nowhere near enough for the Elite Four member even when including a starter which no other Elite Four member has ever done.
Thankfully, they've been improving stuff like that with Unova and Kalos. I really like how Kalos in particular has such a wide variety of Pokémon throughout the entire game.

Yeah it has been much better. I'm already encouraged by the number of ghost types revealed, a type with one of the lowest total number of pokemon.
Yeah I was always sad that houndour came so late. Really with dark types as a whole, unless you got umbreon you had to wait until Kanto which is strange given it was a new type and you'd figure an undiscovered type would exist on the new continent rather than the one you explored in the previous game
So keen for that fighting dragon
Until fairy comes and fucks my shit up saddood;
well, it's confirmed by leaks
my assumption was correct- the leaks of the final starter evos were real
it's because japan had the demo out early so now people are datamining it
gamefreak didn't learn from the oras datamining- because they literally had all new pokemon files and etc in the demo lol
also there are abominations to be had

Definitely picking Litten yay.

just think of Giovanni with that Persian girl;
Oddly, the demo reminds me of Kingdom Hearts?
The way the characters run, Hau's arms behind his head like Sora, the innocence and naiveté of the island and its inhabitants akin to the Destiny Islands, the way the characters mouths move when talking, etc
that was so 2013 felt lol
But I think there's a common influence (Oceania) between destiny island and the Pokemon island and the similarities could be a coincidence
but then again Pokemon plots aren't known for originality (or kingdom hearts for that matter lol)
So Rowlett becomes Grass/Ghost
Litten goes Fire/Dark
Popplio goes Water/Fairy
Dammit now I kind of want Rowlett instead because I love ghost pokemon

Like people have said looks like Litten would be fire/dark which I'd be happy with especially if it plays differently than houndoom (physical maybe). My guess at the seel would be it gains fairy type mostly based off having a pink ball and being whimsical

don't see it as a fairy tbh
im gonna assume fighting type tho is there is a 2nd lol.
Lololol
tfw starter evolutions can change secondary type
I thought he might change secondary type but I did not expect ghost typing
Primarina's special move seems lame tbh
Yeah not sure how that works unless it either doesn't damage teammates or does double damage against those with burns
if it's a weak move that you can target allies with, i think it has slight potential for vgc

Grass/ghost is fucking baller, I was already leaning towards Rowlett but that sold it.
Deciding factor for me might just be that I would like a Salandit or whatever that fire/poison type is also. So then I would get Rowlet to avoid doubling up on fire
Plus I think I'm going to get my gf Pokémon and she'll probably pick Litten because she loves cats
same with rowlet- i ABSOLUTELY love ranger/archer themes.
and plus, ghost- jesus. my favorite type.
shame about popplio though
:(
ehh fk it
gonna go with popplio but never evolve it
going to go with rowlet competitive wise though
ill prob come here for rowlet eggs if anyone offers

If you've never played ruby/sapphire it could be pretty cool.
Sun/Moon will be hotter shit though because people will be moving onto this as the new gen so if you care about multiplayer at all it's the better option as it won't be backwards compatible

was 6 that meh? I feel like a lot of people really liked it.
Some of the designs I've been seeing for the Sun/Moon legendaries are the most un-Pokemon designs of any gen by far. The mascots are fine, but the ultra beasts...
Ultra Beasts come from [glow=black,2,300]a different dimension; "Ultra Space"
Only them specifically are designed like how they are. It fits in with the story at the very least.[/glow]
Regarding gen 6, Jesus fucking christ they dropped the ball. Transferring from Black 2, to Y, was the lamest shit I've done. Too much hand-holding, way easier, lack of a post game. Though, Friend Safari was fun online no doubt, but it definitely wasn't a Join Avenue... THOUGH- I did finish the Looker side-quest. A bit of a heart-warmer there. Not sure why I didn't even try to attempt it until a week before Moon/Sun released.
With OR/AS, I was displeased with how casual it was- I tried to make it harder for myself by not using any Pokemon they give me mid-game, but in the end, my time playing it wasn't truly memorable. It for some reason came out bland for me; I actually didn't finish the game until a year later after I purchased it, and now having finished it; still didn't change my mind much. I missed the trumpets. Had more post game than Y, but it didn't truly interest me. The story was uninteresting overall imo.
With Pokemon Moon/Sun, it was so fucking fresh regarding battle strategies. It wasn't just highlighting a super effective move and mashing A until your opponent's Pokemon faints. I actually had to THINK to get through the Trials. [glow=black,2,300]Wishiwashi (with a decent moveset) and Alomoloma (depends on rng)? That was a great battle (for those who don't know, Wishiwashi needs to stay above a certain point in HP before it's reduced to one fish). Lurantis Totem, was nuts, one ally brings in Sunlight and attacks on the side or lowers your stat, Lurantis abuses Solar Blade with STAB and PLUS it has a Power Herb (lets you use a move that needs charging, instantly).[/glow] It truly made gyms so bland. I hope Gamefreak takes more risks in the future. No HM bullshit was also great. Don't miss them one bit.
I've actually had my team wiped out to almost nothing- even by random trainers/wild pkmn. The story is ok, loving that Gamefreak wrote in another crazy motherfucker as an antagonist (I think the first title goes to Cyrus, who literally ditched his team to stay alone in a Hell-like dimension, second goes to Ghetsis who used his emotionally numbed son as a puppet for Team Plasma). Gamefreak made this a quality game. Don't care that most of the Pokemon coming out of this generation may not be as competitively viable because most have mediocre speed stats, but Z moves just buffed MANY Pokemon, an example would be Porygon-Z, his Converter Z makes you gain +1 in all stat and still convert to a type.
Also, the fucking Dex entry for Salazzle in Pkmn Sun is so awkward for a kid's game lmao.
>"For some reason, only females have been found. It creates a reverse harem of male Salandit that it lives with."
Only cons so far is that the cutscenes are bullshit with how many there are and that Lillie is really damn annoying.
But yeah, for a game targeted towards kids, these games seem to be in a difficulty for more seasoned players. This game is getting a lot of praise from people who hated gen 6.
And @Travis, I agree, though idk, I like training with this feature, but uhh catching pkmn can be a bitch. BUT I feel like they stop to a certain point. Still can be annoying but oh well lol.
gen 6 was awesome.

I one shot that thing so I never even got to see what it does
But I did pick Litten... I'm sure the fire and water totems were about that east for others too
picking my copy up 2 day, i think im finally about to beat FF 6 so maybe i can actually play this with you bros!!!
After consulting the Internet on the hardest totem apparently almost everyone agrees it's Lurantis.
Huh. I guess I dodged that one. I'm like the guy that's oblivious to the pain of Miltank in Gen ii

I think my Litten was about level 32 or 33 at the time? Possibly even an Incineroar. Fire Z move did it. I'm a bit over leveled I think because I just killed all the Pokémon I encountered while looking for low encounter pokes
arizona david liked x/y that's good enough for me
so uh i'm at the elite four right now but haven't beat them yet cuz breeding starters and grandpa durgn after i found a ditto
got moon and started with popplio b/c i always pick water idk why. having a hard time deciding my team lol i've only played a few hours

basically the same but with a little twist. im still a bit early in the game though lol

lol, again?? it'll be patched out quickly tho i'm sure
I'm at the E4. I've been doing a set battle/no Z-Move/Exp. Share Off (unless really under-leveled lol) run and man, I feel that going with this artificial difficulty is just right for this game.
E4 this time around is pretty challenging. I'm even going ham on potions and revives mid-battle and abusing nerf & buff moves.
Also, best OST imo:

oh shit, ok so if anyone wants to go the extra mile in this game, you can actually rebattle the trial captains after sometime; it's not exclusively post-game you just have to visit them after you beat their trials

that is great
riding pokemon is so fun. as if it wasn't cool enough that they killed off HMs, they gave us such an awesome fucking replacement for them.
used literally 30x revives and hyper potions throughout the e4
had two more revives left, 1 max revive as well, 13 hyper potions left
At the champion already. No spoilers just obscure details
Eventually...
>have NO healing items, no revives left; used all berries
I am left with my last pokemon against their last one.
>use one more attack
>opponent has literally 1-10 hp left
>opp uses own move and i died on the inside
I have not been this assblasted at pokemon in a long time.
Didn't help that I used my Max Revive on a pokemon I wasn't planning to revive accidentally- probably that cost me the game.
Jesus fucking CHRIST
I HAD ONE JOB.

eventually the hawaiian theme seems to just fall apart among characters [glow=black,2,300]and becomes all about team skull, team aether, their respective leaders, cosmog, and becoming stronger aside from the trials. and ofc lillie doesnt stop making cutscenes.[/glow]
i got a female salandit really quickly i didnt know that was difficult but it had a shitty nature

Complete glass cannon. Its ability is kind of wasted on it
Could be okay as a revenge killer competitively
what's with so many new pokemon having such shitty speed stats
the crown jewel being wishiwashi, but that makes sense considering its other stats are pretty high (school form of course)
Alright, I don't think I'm going to consider myself having beaten the game UNTIL I beat E4 post-game, and [glow=black,2,300]maybe a few times more because the challengers to compete for your champion title change[/glow].

I can see this getting annoying quickly...
it already kinda is
it's not a big deal just when battling, and it does make the totem battles cooler
but when trying to catch a pokemon it gets very annoying yes
though it does have its perks for people who like competitive battling and breeding, as apparently you can get pokemon with more perfect IVs after so many calls for help
Dhelmise is a fucking bro.
If anyone wants one (not bred competitively, just to have one) then PM me.
I am probably going to raise one competitively. May not be OU but definitely gonna keep it as a Rapid Spinner and can fend for itself for a bit with decent attack. I love its design too much to not consider it.
I'm also considering Mimikyu as a sweeper lol, and Bewear. Even though they'd prob be shit but i love them.
And if anyone wants to help me out- well, I'd like a Mareanie. But it's optional in the end
ok trading is kinda lame compared to other gens, kinda unintuitive
for those that want a short tutorial
You have to:
>Go to Festival Plaza
>Tap right-bottom corner to go online
>have to try to look for friend in guest list (lol why not have a separate list for friends???)
>>if they're online, they'll have "Friend's List" at the side in the list
X/Y & AS/OR did it so much better with the PSS, I'll give gen 6 that. But it wasn't that bad so w/e.
Agreed
I hate festival plaza it's so boring
poke pelago is cool tho
the PSS was a way more user-friendly system than the plaza, that's for sure
btw Alolan Marowak is my new best friend

i think i'll use Salazzle instead for a new fire type
ok so offensive z-moves are cool and all, but the real secret lies in z-status moves or moves with special effects. z-crystals can add great new effects to these.
for example, the porygon line's conversion move, enhanced by normalium-z, now does the normal conversion effect plus a whopping 1.5x increase to ALL stats. say hello to porygon-z sweepers! belly drum-z now heals the pokemon 100% first, then adds the usual belly drum effect, meaning your poke can still get a belly drum off if it was nearly killed that turn. z-parting shot now heals the incoming switched pokemon.
really cool new stuff

its ability is not a waste. the ability to toxic literally anything that switches in? it may be fragile, but just the ability to toxic something that would otherwise wall you is pretty fucking neato. and super safe.
i mean in the meta it probably won't be able to do much of anything else without a nasty plot setup and some bombass team synergy, but i would definitely not discount its very unique ability. and lmao it's one of the only new pokes that's actually got good speed

True enough, but if Salazzle used Toxic on it upon its switch-in, then as far as I'm concerned Salazzle did her job and she'll switch out anyway. Toxic is just a really easy, safe strategy that shouldn't be discounted. But yeah, if she had been just given a little more bulk, she could really shine.
Fair enough. Would be extremely useful on Toxapex but its own ability isn't half bad
Oh right and if anyone wants a Litten I can get one of those for people too
Do you want something specific for a litten? Cause I don't got much to offer.
i got litten and Rowlett through wonder trade lol
totem lurantis was a fucking asshole
it was that fucking castform that made the battle so one sided for me lol that was probably the most difficult totem. I got lucky with confuse ray

to breed just put a pokemon and a ditto in the daycare, run around for about a minute, come back, get egg, run around until hatch
That's the easy version without looking up egg groups at least
I am going to bed now I will be available ~7 Mountain time tomorrow if I remember n_n

ok, the calling for help thing makes catching pokemon a pain in the ass.
I tried to catch a pikipek or whatever, lowered it's health, it called for help, i killed the other one, it called for help again. It did this 5 times.
It'd be nice if there was like an anti adrenaline orb that made Pokémon you're trying to catch stop calling for help
Especially Pokémon with aoe moves that could KO a shiny or something
so i herd u liek mudkips xDDDDDD
so there was a rumor a while back saying crobat was going to get the merciless ability, which would've made him amazing. unfortunately it turned out to be fake.
there are plenty of nice new little additions to various pokes though. you can now run a mega sharpedo with psychic fangs, for example.

havent played since diamond which i thought was okay but you guys seem to be having a lot of fun with this game
basically just looking for someone to tell me to buy it and enforce my consumerism
i mean i'm definitely loving it yeah
"is online good" is a weird question to ask about for pokemon though. you either trade or battle online just as you have since gen iv. granted, yeah, it's much easier to do so these days. and some of the online features that have been added since the last time you played (like wonder trade) are pretty neat

matchmaking?
i mean u can battle randoms, kax p much nailed it it's mostly the same
there are rated battles but they ban u if u aren't good with hacks or if u do something dumb
like i got banned on Y bc i used a 99999999999999999 pokemiles code and transferred it to my online pkmn account LMAO
tho they took out rotation & fkin triple battles lame
i was sad there were so few double battles in game lol
Quote from: antmaster5000 on November 30, 2016, 07:33:16 PM
Is there a matchmaking mode or something similar?
for battling online people, you go into festival plaza mode, select battle on the bottom screen ("communication features" or smth) and then select battle spot. from that point you can select if you want a free battle or a "rated" battle (ranked match basically), and also select if you want to include the clause that bans certain legendaries.
for both free battles and rated battles, you're paired up with someone random. they're 3v3 btw.
by the way, don't bother playing free battles online until you have pokemon at at least level 50. as always, pkmn levels online are pulled down to 50, but not up. i learned the hard way that this general rule still applies.
idk if you can raise levels to 50 in link battles (as in battles with people on your guest list/vip (friends) list). haven't tried a link battle yet.

My true difficulty was Cynthia, I had to try a lot to actually beat her. I have not played gen 4 since gen 4 times so I can't truly recall how difficult or any other aspects of Pearl but I remember it was at the very least decent to me.
And althought I wasn't into the meta that time, I heard it was the most balanced it ever was then. Wish I were active that time.

it was the first time since blue i played a pokemon to finish so idk maybe it was because of that
tbh i've had a couple points in sun/moon that have been really challenging for me. totem lurantis, nanu, and third guzma. for nanu it was mostly because my team is just ass against dark and ground types rn, so his krookodile fucking annihilated most of my team.
gen 6 was very easy. gen 5, i did struggle a little bit with final N. i don't recall having any trouble with anything prior to gen 5.
also, d/p is also my least favorite, but i at least thank it for finally giving us our modern battle mechanics (by splitting up physical/special moves correctly instead of by type)
guys i've played for 4 hours and i've yet to accomplish a damn thing like im pretty sure im still in the tutorial but i caught a ghastly already so this game fucking rules who wants to evolve this bitch into a gengar (my fav) for me thanks in advanced

oh lol NICE! i just figured someone would hold my hand to the first gym or trial or whatever and i've just kind of been wandering around catchin' em all and grinding my dudes to like level 20 instead of going to the next check point lol

welp, finished the main story, so now it's time for post-game stuff
so in the post-game so far i've caught all the Tapus, rematched the E4, explored the rest of Poni Island, and fought Red at the entrance to the Battle Tree. still gotta catch the Ultra Beasts. afaik aside from actually doing the Battle Tree there's not really anything else post-game i still have yet to do

Sun
Better exclusives imo
I just say go with the one whose legendary you like better
go with the one that matches your beddy times
You can always just change the 3ds clock
no that's cheating don't listen to this cheater
yeah sun had better exclusives lol but i still chose moon b/c i am edgy and i like dark
exclusives are not too big a deal anyway since trading is so easy now
finished catching/obtaining the legendaries. well except the free cosmog, i still gotta pick him up.
also i really like that for cosmog and ultra beasts you get more than one of the ones that are version-exclusive so you have extras to trade with people that have the ones not in your game. kinda kills the feeling of exclusivity, but i certainly don't mind ease of access.
almost read kaz's post there, but i'm still managing to avoid SOME spoilers
anyway, gonna start a fanblog for decidueye's abs who's with me

Pokémon Bank finally got the Gen7 update today.
New changes in Bank:
* Able to transfer Pokémon to/from Sun/Moon while still maintaining compatibility with XYORAS
* If a Pokémon has ever been in Alola (whether caught there or transferred from Kalos), you can still deposit it and organize it together with your Gen6 Pokémon, but you cannot withdraw that specific Pokémon ever again to Gen6.
* Any Pokémon that has never been withdrawn to Sun/Moon can still be withdrawn to Gen6, even if it's sharing a Bank box with newer stuff
* Bank now has a Pokédex: it gets automatically synced with every 3DS Pokémon game you use with Bank.
* The Pokédex shows you all the Pokédex entries you've gathered across all versions, forms, and languages and it tells you which games each Pokémon can be found in. It's a national dex.
* There is still no national dex available within Sun/Moon, you can only access one by using Bank. However, it seems Sun/Moon still keeps track internally of seen/caught data for non-Alola Pokémon, since for example after I synced my Moon version's Pokédex to Bank I saw seen entries for stuff like Kanto starters (from fighting Red) and owned entries for Island Scan stuff like Togepi and Cyndaquil.
* Bank also syncs some basic stats with each game, like how many eggs you've hatched or trades you've completed, and lets you see and compare those numbers between every game version you've synced
* When looking at the Pokédex, you can see a picture of each Pokémon's 3D model as a pre-rendered static image. It's uglier than in the actual games, but at least it's better than the Box sprite that Bank uses everywhere else.
And PokéTransporter:
* Added compatibility with the Gen1 VC games (Red, Green, Blue, Yellow)
* Works mostly the same as it does with Gen5 games: The only thing it does is let you transfer the entirety of Box 1 one-way from that game to your Bank boxes. You still can't actually pick what you want to deposit like any kind of sane Box interface should.
* Mew cannot be transferred from English Gen1 games. It's allowed for Japanese copies only.
* Missingno is ignored and will not transfer, but its presence won't affect your ability to transfer other stuff
* Underleveled level-evolutions are blocked; my lv7 Blastoise can't be transferred (until I level it up).
* I haven't tested yet, but they probably block impossible movesets and broken nicknames
* They don't check much else; both my lv7 Gengar and my own-OT Mr. Mime can transfer without issues.
* All Pokémon transferred from Gen1 will have their hidden ability if one exists. In particular, this means you can't get something like a No Guard Machamp with Fissure because Gen1 Machamps will always have the Steadfast ability.
* All Pokémon transferred from Gen1 will have at least 3 maxed IVs
* Abilities and other attributes seem to be deterministic and based on factors like the Pokémon's level at the time of transfer
* Once transferred, Gen1 Pokémon are marked as Gen7-ified and cannot be withdrawn to Gen6 games
alright so i made competitive pokes (ok so smogon-wise, they're uu at most lol but w/e I like experimenting with new pokemon)
Mimikyu w/ Figy Berry (may replace with Focus Sash, but Figy Berry has been pretty useful so far)
Adamant, 5IV, EV Spread: 252 Atk, 252 Spe, 4 Sp. Def
Shiny
- Shadow Claw
- Play Rough
- Facade (idk may replace)
- Swords Dance
Pretty basic and standard set for Mimikyu. Set up Swords Dance, get hit, have 2x Atk while having full HP- it's no wonder why this Pokemon is sought out.
Bewear w/ Leftovers
Fluffy
Adamant, 5IV, EV Spread: 252 HP, 252 Atk, 4 Def.
- Hammer Arm
- Return
- Ice Punch
- Shadow Claw
Ok, to explain why I didn't focus on Speed, it's just shit with that stat and with trying make a competitive Bewear, you will most likely go second all the time in most formats. So, to actually get at minimum two moves in (more if facing a Pokemon with Atk based moves), I maxed out HP. Its ability honestly makes it so bulky that it makes up for the lack of Speed, Fluffy makes it so direct contact moves are halved in damage. But Fire-Type moves do double damage. So it basically has three weaknesses, Fighting, Psychic, and Fire, and Sp. Atk moves fuck it over. But that's where the HP comes in. With less concern about Speed, it makes using Hammer Arm not a bitch to use, because now you can use it with minimal consequences (unable to outspeed niche pokemon, nothing much tbh). Shadow Claw is most definitely needed, you don't want to be locked with a Ghost-type. This absolutely wrecks Battle Tree (even in Super Singles it can handle itself for a bit). And in competitive settings, it's actually decent Pokemon. since most are still reliant on Phy. Atk. 444 HP, and 383 Atk, holy shit man, and the 197 Def is sound with Fluffy. This thing is absolutely the shit.
Bruxish w/ Aguav Berry (yeah I really like self-healing items, but it's a placeholder for now)
Dazzling
Jolly, 5IV, EV Spread: 252 Atk, 252 Spe, 4 Def.
- Aqua Tail
- Psychic Fangs
- Ice Fang (Egg Move)
- Crunch
Although there are better alternatives, it's a cool looking glass cannon at the very least (imo anyway). Has great coverage. Most likely you're going to be using this as a sweeper more than anything with its stat distribution. With its decent Attack, you may want to go with an Adamant one and use a Choice Scarf. Though I thought that I'd like to use the item slot for something different so I kept up with the Speed and went with its normal Attack stat since it's decent enough. Dazzling is a cool ability, no priority attacks, so it fucks over Sucker Punch.
Drampa w/ Wiki Berry
Berserk
Quiet, 5IV, EV Spread: 126 HP, 126 Def. (honestly forgot how much I put in for those two specifically, but they add up to 252), 252 Sp. Atk
- Hyper Voice
- Dragon Pulse
- Thunderbolt
- Flamethrower
Last two moves are placeholders until I decide some decent attacks. But yeah, 405 Special Attack after factoring nature, EV's and IV's, but lmao shit speed fuck. Yeah prob. not working out in the end, does not have much bulk either. But that's where the Berry comes in. Though, I may just give it a Focus Sash, its ability raises its Special Attack if it's less than half, and the Berry defeats the purpose, but uhh well, it's just a placeholder and wasn't thinking right. Not even a Choice Scarf will save this guy's ass. But I liked its design and wanted to make something of it. But I guess it's just a glass cannon, a really slow one at that...
Will cover a few other Pokemon soon.

ALSO, if you evolve a Gen 1 Pokemon into a future gen. Pokemon (ex: Porygon to Porygon2/Porygon-Z), the game will see it as an illegal Pokemon. Yeah, they didn't really think this one through lmao.

I saw reports recently that a lot of players got banned from online play because of using illegal Pokémon. Will you really get banned for using something totally legit like this?
Detecting a Gen1-origin Porygon-Z as illegal sorta makes sense as a mistake, but why Porygon2? Everything else about the validity checks and even the shiny calculation seems to leave open the possibility of Gen2 VC games coming out later.
Also, I was wrong on a couple points:
* Broken nicknames aren't blocked, they're just translated into empty spaces.
* Mew can be transferred from the English VC games only if the OT/ID matches a specific event Mew that was distributed exclusively in the UK. US never got the event, but I guess the US/UK games are trade-compatible so it's still legal.

It's beyond that. For it to have the Gameboy icon and still be legal, it needs to be of the original 151 Pokemon.
Regarding the bans, it's only regarding people who edit their save files. Illegal Pokemon are checked before battling online, if there's an issue, they deny you participation unless you change your team to get rid of the illegal Pokemon. Editing save files have been an increasingly popular method to go the quick route. I'm not entirely sure if it's before or after you register your game for Game Sync though. But I'm thinking it's after you register for Game Sync since that's when the server actually checks your game for shady shit.
Edit: Confirmed from another forum that post-Game Sync is when they ban you if you edit the save. If you do it before you register for Game Sync, you won't get caught seeing how there's no routine check-up.
fucking POKEMON regionals have prize pots that surpass most smash tourneys wtf
read that a very recent one had $10k in it, and 1st place got 3k
I feel like I should get back into the grind, but VGC mostly focuses on doubles...
I think Frostbite 2017 (smash 4) only had a payout of 1.2k and that tourney was stacked as hell, especially with japanese smashers competing.
i've barely touched this since finishing up catching all the legendaries and such. mostly just because i've had so much else on my plate, but still, despite how much i love sun/moon, this is the quickest i've put down a pokemon game in a while.
Idk I wanted to put together a team but I don't want to bother with ivs and evs so I kinda said fuck it.
i really enjoyed this game but i quit playing as soon as i hit the credits because i managed to spend like 50 hours just on the trials LOL
Dude at the Wendy's counter just now was named Hau
