Hopefully the program that replaces it won't be such a let-down. But hey at least I'm going to end with Platinum status  hocuspocus;

Yknow if Nintendo gave out classic games for free ala psn people would go crazy for it. Although that might ruin their strategy of remaking every game that ever made them money

This probably has little to do with club Nintendo but the name made me think of it.

y'know maybe if nintendo didn't try to just mechanically recreate what made people enjoy the n64 it'd make them a lot of money

I hope the physical rewards they're adding in February will be decent and in stock long enough for me to claim.

Kaz's opinion may differ, but the reasons I think last year was Club Nintendo's worst year are:
1. Elite Status Rewards in 2014 and 2015 are all-digital
2. For quite a long time in the past year or two, there have been no physical rewards except Grill-Off and greeting cards, which are both junk
3. In the rare occasion they did add something nice (Luigi figure, 3DS XL charging cradle), it sold out immediately after no prior announcement and never returned

I think these points apply a bit more to the 2013-2014 year than to the current 2014-2015 year.

They did manage to pick up the act a little bit just over the last couple months, by adding the Smash promo (Mewtwo+CD) and 3 decent-enough rewards: Smash Bros posters (albeit overpriced compared to their previous poster sets), 3DS game card case, and a T-Shirt. Two of those disappeared from stock yesterday almost immediately after the closing announcement.

I get points 2 and 3 but yeah I guess he's more referring to the past year. I recall there being multiple poster sets in recent years as well, along with those wrist straps, 3DS felt bags, and a few other lame physical items. I don't even know what Grill-Off is though
and yeah 2014's reward sucked but we have no idea what 2015's platinum reward is going to be
i am considering that 3DS game case right now, but I'm curious to see what other stuff they're coming out with in February. This month's selection of eshop games is a bit better than usual, but I have all the games that i'd want out of those

You can, but:

* You have to start Wii mode from your Wii U and download with Wii Shop Channel
* You cannot use Wii U GamePad or Wii U Pro Controller as inputs
* You cannot use Gamecube Controllers for input, unlike when playing on a real Wii
* You need to own/buy a Wii Classic Controller (except for NES games)
* No save states, unlike native Wii U VC games

I haven't tried the 3ds Donkey Kong or Super Mario 3d land either.

either of these is a far better choice than sticker star

donkey kong country returns 3d is merely port of the (excellent) wii game that neither looks nor runs as well as the wii original (though it does have one extra world and some other minor additions/tweaks), so i'd only consider it if you don't have a wii

but if you do, then of the three choices i'd get 3d l&

Title: Re: RIP Club Nintendo
Post by: bluaki on February 05, 2015, 09:14:30 AM
I liked Super Paper Mario a lot, but it wasn't quite Paper Mario-ish

Sticker Star, on the other hand, I outright dislike. No sane developer should ever make an RPG where there's no experience, no rewards for battles, and all moves are consumable items.

It's not just battles; they ruined everything else about Paper Mario. Overworld levels are pretty dull. The "puzzles" aren't very good. There's not nearly as much good dialogue or story. No partners.

I'm kinda interested in that extra Punch-Out thing, Doc Louis's Punch-Out, since Club Nintendo is the only way to get it. Though I think its just basically Punch-Out DLC.

I gotta stop assuming people know I'm joking when I say things like this

Did anybody else get anything good from this program?

I wasted all my coins right before it started to get the smash posters... :(

Like are you really that offended that I went into the store, asked if I could take them and then... took them? Like come on.
Like, do you really think I'm serious?
well when you make 3 posts insisting that I'm a thief, yes.

Metroid II, on the gb, has saves on it but it's old school hard due to lack of saves and controls.

majora's mask bag came i today

it's shit

i foolishly expected the design to be embroidered into the bag, instead it's just a glitter stencil that's guaranteed to erode away within a few months should it ever see any actual use

it's a perfect embodiment of some of the most prominent and most destructive recurring elements of modern nintendo's design philosophy - be as cheap as possible, be as lazy as possible, and capitalize on nostalgia whenever you can

truly the most befitting ending to club nintendo i could have ever imagined

guess i'll stuff it in my closet and bury it along with all the rest of the disappointing memories club nintendo has produced over the years lol
