http://www.nintendolife.com/news/2014/08/mario_kart_8_dlc_coming_in_november_features_zelda_and_f_zero_content
So we're getting DLC for Mario Kart 8 with new tracks, karts, and characters, including several from non-Mario games
DLC 1 in November: Link, Cat Peach, Tanooki Mario
DLC 2 in May 2015: Villager, Isabelle, Dry Bowser
Bonus for buying both: 8 Colored Yoshis, 8 Colored Shy Guys
Each pack also includes 8 courses and 4 vehicles.
In UK, they're priced at £7 each. US prices not yet announced.
There's still no Amiibo-related update announcement.
cool

DRY BOWSER
BUT NO DRY BONES
however, new tracks for a mario kart game is actually really cool
going to probably be seeing tons of links racing online once this comes out lol
LINK IN MK???? *swoon*

no one is forcing you to buy them or any dlc....
not even three peaches is enough to satisfy my lust
i hope the next dlc is a peach pack that features every single one of her power up variations as a playable racer
give me penguin suit peach or give me nothing
I'll happily take more courses.
Nintendo is finally making strides to bring their online stuff up to par with everybody else
I'm kind of wary of Nintendo doing DLC but these additions are superfluous enough that I feel alright about it. Wondering when the Battle Mode DLC will be announced akudood;
Hopefully they cost $10 or less though. I'm especially happy about Isabelle, but Link should be really cool too. Maybe the next Kart game we get will just be Smash Kart.

Also it should be noted that one of the new vehicles in the first DLC pack is the Blue Falcon.

Quote from: http://nintendonews.com/2014/08/mario-kart-8-dlc-pack-prices/Both DLC packs are available to pre-order from the Wii U eShop starting tomorrow for $7.99 each. You can buy both packs together for a discounted price of $11.99.
but i too am very disappointed about the omission of dry bones
i wanna play as Isabelle more than Link tbh lol
also who pre-orders dlc??
no idea but if that turns out to be the only way to get the discount then i sure will lol
additional preorder bonus:
QuoteAs a bonus, if you pre-order both Mario Kart 8 DLC packs you will immediately unlock eight new color options for Yoshi and Shy Guy in their game.
!!
oh dang
guess i will then lol
wow i missed the part where it said 8 new courses with each pack
this is the best dlc ever?????
F-Zero, Excitebike, Zelda, and Animal Crossing courses lead me to believe it'll be new cups, with retro cups.

A screenshot shows that Wario's Gold Mine (Wii) is among the added tracks, so yes, it probably is four new cups that might be half-retro.

Edit: the update is now live
Today's update is also the update with all the miscellaneous fixes like:
Online play stability
Track maps on the TV
Records page in the menu
Mercedes cars (free)
Next Race is default selection in GP instead of View Highlights
Saving kart customizations when you reboot
With changes related to the recent announcements too:
"Shop" button on Main Menu
Yoshi and Shy Guy recolors for people who preordered DLC
Character Selection and Cup Selection screen expanded to list DLC content; selecting them tells you to buy the DLC or wait for release if you pre-ordered it
Unlocked DLC content is indicated with a red exclamation mark icon
It seems the new cup icons are: Triforce and Yoshi Egg for Pack 1, Nook Leaf and Bell for Pack 2.
Color choices for both Yoshi and Shy Guy are: Green, Light Blue, Black, Red, Yellow, White, Dark Blue, Pink, Orange
The current DLC seems to be usable online, but I have doubts that the future packs will be.
The Amiibo update is probably something completely different from these DLC packs, but I expect it might be made available around early 2015. I interpret Link's presence in DLC as a suggestion that Nintendo likely isn't intending to use Amiibo to unlock non-Mario racers.
Also, this F-Zero track in Mario Kart 8 will probably be the closest thing we ever get to a new F-Zero game y/n
The menu really does advertise the DLC everywhere.

QuoteHello everyone. This is Eiji Aonuma from Nintendo.
The other day, I gave you all a sneak peek of Epona, which is a weapon included in a DLC pack for Hyrule Warriors. Today, I would like to introduce another one of Link’s “rides” which will be included in the Mario Kart 8 The Legend of Zelda DLC Pack along with Link…the Master Cycle.
As you can see in this picture, the Master Cycle is designed after a horse, so it’s literally a horse of steel. (The Hylian Shield even looks like the cowling too.)
You can use many different types of bikes in Mario Kart 8, but this Master Cycle has a design that characters ride leaning forward, allowing you to make sharp turns on the course.
Also, this bike is designed a little bigger compared to other bikes, so you’ll definitely leave an impression on the track when you race with it.
The development team showed me how the Master Cycle races on the track, and I was overwhelmed by how great it looked. (It looked so cool that I also want it to appear in games I work on.)
Along with the first Mario Kart 8 DLC Pack, The Legend of Zelda Pack planned for release in November, you can also advance purchase the second DLC Pack, the Animal Crossing Pack either separately or together with the first pack in a bundle. Please check out Nintendo eShop or the in-game shop if you’re interested in this content (a software update is required in order to access the DLC content).
I hope you'll look forward to seeing Link take a leap outside of the world of Hyrule and making his karting debut!

The wooden planks you drive on in that level are known to cause seizures, since there is rapidly changing colors.

I don't think you can without the game.
well there's a purchase option on the listing in the eshop so
the shop has a feature where it'll ask you if you have the correct game before you buy something, but i don't know if it actually prevents you from doing so in any way
Nintendo's eShop isn't smart enough to know about games you own physically. You don't need to have the disc inserted in order to buy DLC. eShop also doesn't look at the records of which games you have ever launched.
the only time with nintendo that you cant buy dlc without the game is on 3ds. if you try to buy dlc in the eshop, it launches the game to buy it there.
Maybe I was mixing it up with the 3DS eShop.

I'm pretty sure that, until today, it was slated as just "Spring 2015" without any month. I've never seen a claim that this will be May. confuseddood;
Also, this same April 23 update adds support for more amiibo: Mega Man, Pac Man, Sonic, Olimar, Toad, Bowser, Rosalina, Villager, Wario. Like the 10 amiibo that were supported before, these ones unlock more (honestly useless) costumes for your Mii Racer.

i know
it is just sad to be because by the time i have a wii u the online scene will probably be dead (or less than it is now) and that is the main reason why i want it
MKDS was so fun during it's online prime. never got into MKWii but i heard that the online was actually really good especially if you got into competitive teams. i have a friend who was on this really good team and they'd battle other teams in team races and stuff and it sounded cool
Tfw u get best buy bucks and dont have to use ur own. Money for this game

Mario Kart 8 v4.0 Patch and Mario Kart 8 DLC 2 just released tonight
As a reminder, the update has:
200cc
9 new amiibo suits: Toad, Bowser, Wario, Rosalina, Olimar, Villager, MegaMan, PacMan, Sonic
minimap toggle with minus button
The DLC has:
Racers: Isabelle, Villager (2 forms: male and female), Dry Bowser
Crossing Cup: Baby Park (GCN), Cheese Land (GBA), Wild Woods, Animal Crossing
Bell Cup: Neo Bowser City (3DS), Ribbon Road (GBA), Super Bell Subway, Big Blue
A detail for Animal Crossing track: seasons are random, but Time Trial is always Summer
The current install sizes (including previous updates and DLC1) are:
443MB Update Data
1632MB DLC
2075MB total
Both the update and DLC take a fair bit of time to download. I think it was about 10 minutes each for me. Hopefully most systems will autoupdate today.
