The fact that we still won't be on another planet
I miss the myth of predestination. While it makes for a good time travel story for travel into the future, there really isn't such a thing. And yet people persist in believing that the future is only the past yet to happen and it's carved in stone somewhere.

well if you leave earth and travel near light speeds for a while and come back you can come back to a future where you no longer exist

That's another common myth. Time is not determined by the speed of light because speed = time it takes to travel a distance, so you're working with a recursive definition there. Therefore that's not true. You're traveling a given distance at a speed equal to the time it takes light to travel the same distance, and the time of arrival always comes AFTER the time of departure. Even for light.
