Social Security cards
Everybody has this secret number that they have to keep secret on this piece of paper that they can't laminate or show to anybody
If you get somebody's number you can steal their identity lol
hahahaha social security cards are so dumb
can't wait until we have a safer, digital equivalent (though it will probs be your google account akudood;)

Just remember all you are is a number to the government
and I wouldn't think a digital equivalent would be really any different or safer than what we have now. And if it would be used for the same things then I'm sure we would run into the same troubles.
A digital equivalent could implement non-repudiation thus severely reducing / realistically eliminating identity theft while also removing the likelihood of fraud because it's much harder to fill out a credit card application with a key and have it validated and to just grab a nine digit number.
i.e.
1.) Provide public key to bank for a loan.
2.) Application is encrypted with this key, along with a session key.
3.) User decrypts with their personal private key
4.) Completes action and encrypts with the session key.
5.) Submits Application
6.) Bank decrypts based on the key they sent.
yay
but yeah the embedded tags thing was more of a joke. But if someone lost their key oh god.

Would that actually work for everything that we use social security cards for? And better?
Everything we use SSNs for or everything we should be using SSNs for?
Because we are using them for a lot more than intended.

you don't need to give your SSN for a plane ticket
My plane ticket had only a one word name on it
The ticket checker guy was pretty suspicious so I showed him my social security card to prove it was my middle name
But my name is too long to even fit on that card so I was like "yeah it's just shortened here lol"
He was confused but laughed and let me through because I'm white
Giving your middle name is optional too
Only middle initial is required
