So I had fun making a full game in just a couple days and I want to do it again.
does anybody here want to make a game
and by "make a game" i mean you tell me what you want and i make it. nothing too ridiculous. it should be something you could expect to be completed in about 3 days.
the game should be something simple enough to be played on a phone. graphics would be hand drawn (no sprites because they're time-consuming, and that's why my major projects take forever) OR 3D MODELED (in the case of drawing i can handle it, but 3D would be your work)
no rpgs because they require a huge foundation to build upon. the game should be something that can be enjoyed in 1-5 minutes. something that's enjoyable up to 30+ minutes is also fine, but if it doesn't get your attention immediately, then it'll also be hard to develop within a reasonable time frame
the idea can be completely absurd, but the absurdity should be in its gameplay, not its story. the story shouldn't even exist really
I paid for entry into the google play store so I'm able to publish there. I'd equally split any possible profits and credit with whoever I collaborate with. if you'd want to publish to apple's app store you'd have to pay for a license, but people actually buy games there and it could be more profitable
i know i kind of tried this before but then i got burglarized days after i posted the topic so it never happened lol
My plan is to do about one game every 2 weeks.
What I expect from you:
-ideas
-possible concept art (it can be simple as you want it to be)
-you find/make the music. find stuff on soundcloud or opengameart and make sure it's legal to reuse it
-you playtest it and tell me whether or not it's what you imagined
-you could stay in contact with me for a couple days while we share retarded ideas and i ask you about my progress every step of the way
-sharing it with people after it's completed so that it gets attention. i don't do social media at all unlike all of you
when i publish this i could attach your real name to it (if you so desire) and you could put it on a résumé or whatever (TYLER, THIS COULD HELP YOU LIVE YOUR DREAMS). the title screen credits would probably be something like "a collaboration between ektomarch & (idk kaz or hiro or tyler or david or somebody)" i wouldn't specify what my role in it is so you could claim as much credit as you want
as an example of what a one weekend project looks like, this is a project i made in about 10 hours of work which involved having to completely relearn unity: http://ektomarch.com/panic/panic.html
i could probably completely redo this in about 2-3 hours since the hardest part was figuring out how to get it all setup. your project should be completable in about 0-15 hours of solid work from me.
please sticky
please share
please respond
thumb up if u agree
retweet
reblog
forward to your grandma
also art would not have to be produced over the time i'm developing
if you have existing artistic assets that'd suit the game you want to make, that's fine. i know tyler has a lot of shit stockpiled and so long as unity could load it then that would be fine
We'll talk about it.
Quote11:14:41 PM lawlzos: also do you want to make a short game together
11:14:47 PM lawlzos: zyphet wants to join too
11:14:57 PM allen wolfgang: i cant even make a game
11:15:07 PM lawlzos: did you read my thread
11:15:26 PM lawlzos: it is your chance to be an ideas guy
11:15:47 PM allen wolfgang: oh i thought u were talking to tyyler
note: this offer is open to everybody. not just big chubs
It may work as a bigger group, honestly.
for a 2-3 day project, bigger groups are a bigger hassle since we need to have everyone available and communicating
i think taking one person's idea and turning it into something is easier
and the point of this is that the games aren't supposed to be some ambitious project. it's about taking a simple idea and turning it into an actual game in a short amount of time.
the only way i could see a bigger team working out is if we have a dedicated artist or two (hensa would be nice to have), a dedicated programmer (hi), a dedicated musician or two (me003? silvertone? jmv?), and someone directing at all. that's a nice division of work but you know damn well not all of them will be willing to stay inside for a full weekend to collaborate on a game. we can't even get you assholes to post.
so that's why i think a 2 person team talking back and forth is easier.

danke, silvertone Reichdood;
a brechtian video game where you must build mortar in a middle of a war, the main character is a cement mixer.
you are an antiquarian astrologer who must read the stars and formulate the correct prediction or else you are beheaded by cyrus the great. Different stars have different meanings and it is a rhythm game
Russian Roulette with a bunch of Detectives and magicians who can cheat their way out of shooting themselves. you must out cheat them.
also note: this isn't "post the craziest plot ideas you can think of that should be a game", but "unique gameplay concepts that could be developed in a couple days and possibly have a really simple and silly story"
[never mind this one was actually bad]

Too lazy to read and type on phone.
Will talk later at home.
OogaBooga
a roguelke where you are in a desert and your only goal is the reach a lake at the base of a mountain that's 30 miles away, in real time
so basically journey combined with desert bus and zelda
i wanna make games :'(
roguelike-esque physics based platformer
game would be up the n+ or super meat boy alley but the levels would consist of randomly generated chunks that had possible but challenging situations
you could even get powerups or something that would make your jump better or give you teleport abilities or something like that
but when you die you're dead forever and have to start over
i would play this game a lot

then post ideas faggot
this isn't a "simple game," but one idea for a game i've always thought would be really great is a sort of cross between yume nikki and earthbound. an rpg based around the idea of exploring your character's unconscious. maybe it could be in order to find answers to solve a mystery of some sort - maybe you could actually delve into OTHER characters' unconscious as well. but the central idea that always stuck was a character exploring his/her own unconscious. not necessarily with dreams.
obviously people would say it's yume nikki as an rpg but as far as i know it hasn't really been done
oh, and as for battle style, i'd always imagined it being standard turn-based, not necessarily as heavily menu-based as mother/dragon quest though
yeah i don't have any ideas for any particularly small games lol
you know i might actually be able to compose on lsdj on my phone and just send you the save file and have you export the tracks yourself
i can contribute!
THE POWER OF GOD
i'm gettin a brainwave for a music-based fighter-ish game hang on let me think about it some more
You should make a game like the Lucid Dream Simulator but for the cellphone.

Yeah I know semi roguelikes are kind of trendy right now but I think this is a sick idea that hasn't been explored. I should learn to code...
what about a game wherre you match up letters to mKE POSTS ON bOYAH, but inSTEAd of it being a game the posts actually appear on boyah
a game where you can only move by bouncing around on a pogo stick and your only weapon is also the pogo stick so you can't move when attacking (aside from rotating)
commander keen was the forefront of video game pogo stick technology. it will never be matched
keen sucked
also i am not sure if i announced this but i am working on a game with zyphet now
the player is a space ship with a ball that can grab other objects (kind of like katamari) and then launch them at other objects. so it's like a space shooter thing except you throw shit instead of shooting
Commander Peen? maybe?
