is it wrong to have someone you know kind of get you an interview or get your resume a little extra attention or whatever?
I'm feeling very conflicted about this
Are you fucking with me? This is how the world works, you should be happy you have a connection.
that's the only way i've ever gotten a job
i mean i know people do it, i just feel really really shitty about it
the world is gay like this
if you feel bad, stand up to it and fight back
If you're not qualified, or as qualified, then definitely. Otherwise, probably.
Although, if it is just to get an interview...
Not at all. Not even remotely.
Networking is the best way to get a job.
like 60 percent of people get their current jobs that way
we dont live in a fucking meritocracy
ok well i guess i'm doing it
plz hire me :(
This is how you get a job.
Sucks, but true.
Yeah shits fucked but you gotta do it
It's just getting a foot in the door. It's you who will ultimately get them to hire you or keep you. Don't feel bad.
Pretty sure that's the whole point of references, recommendations, and the "how did you hear about this position?" field on job applications that give the option "Current employee" or "Employee referral".
If it's something in a professional sense there is absolutely nothing wrong with that. You've built professional relationships and you're using them.
It's a bit more shitty if it's something like "my completely inexperienced and unqualified son/nephew needs a job. Take a look at this resume or you're fired. who cares if there are 30 other applicants who have the right qualifications with years of experience?"
Even in that. If it's something like 'by the way my brother is looking for a job. do you mind giving him a shot at an interview? He'd be a really good fit' that is perfectly fine tho.
