Have you read any Philip K Dick?... he kind of owns...like a lot. He has tons of books that are all really good? You should at least read Ubik or Palmer ELderitch by pkd
Victory Chimp by Neil Hagerty is a pretty good scifi book, it is a little out there but I enjoyed it. it is about a monkey named victory chimp and his buddy occula as they travel through time trying to defeat a spectre of Evil.
The arabian nightmare by robert irwin is a cool fantasy novel that takes place in Cairo in the 1400s (or 1500s idr). it is about dream diseases and secret subversive organizations
THe illuminatus trilogy by robert anton wilson nad robert shea is like the Masterpiece of scifi. please read.

yeah, but i want his specific thoughts on it. like, is it a good one to start with, or is it one of his better ones.

it's a good one to start with, yes. and i would say it's one of the "better" ones, but not one of the "best" ones. it's in the upper percentile, we'll say.
cat's cradle is also a good one to start with, and is also a lot better than slaughterhouse imo

i think breakfast of champions benefits from the reader already knowing kilgore trout from one of vonnegut's other novels

Yeah exactly. I got a copy of it for my dad for Christmas and he keeps texting me about how it is blowing his mind how it was written in the 30s. Huxley made some spot on predictions
island is a cool book by aldous too.
so is heaven and hell
but if you want a true book detailing the 'way things are' i recommend the communist manifesto.

i got a lot of books over at the used book store in roseville called "almost perfect" i think
i think it's on douglas blvd
that store's kind of a huge mess of piles of books but i find a lot of absurdly cheap paperbacks of pretty much all kinds there
