I'm talking about the battle screen, did the last posts not make it clear enough for you?
i pirated earthbound in spite of nintendo's stubbornness half a decade ago, so lol@them if they expect me to buy it (on the wii u of all platforms) now
One screen is going to ruin a game for you?

seeing as you see the screen EVERY time you get into a battle yes, like I said i like being able to see my characters in battle.
idk why you're all getting butt raged over the fact that I couldn't get into a game that you all liked.
you all did the same thing when I said I couldn't get into SotC
fuckin nerds akudood;
Earthbound is full of pop culture references, right? How has it aged?
yeah but earthbound is really good and if one small thing like that is going to ruin a game for you, that just sounds asinine.

Yeah, there's references
everywhere. I don't think it's aged that poorly. I mean, it plays like an older RPG, but that's not a bad thing. At some points, its age shows, but it's not bad.

but it's not a 'small' thing
you see it with all the encounters.
so.
nice to know you all bitch at people for not liking games you all like thumbup;

compare the amount of time you're in battles compared to the time you're wandering our towns. It's VERY minimal. If you're playing the game normally, you should ever really have to grind (unless you're going for the Sword of the Kings or something like that). Even then, at that point you're high enough a level that battles take you 5-10 seconds. So it really isn't bad at all. So, it
is a small think. The fact that you won't play a game just because of a battle screen is like not playing a racing game because you don't like the color of the grass in the tracks. It's really silly.
You do the exact same thing. goowan

all the references are from like shit in the 60s.
since he seems bummed out about it i'll come out and say that i agree with dp in that the battles aren't a 'small' thing
it's not a matter of time spent doing them, it's a matter of importance
in an RPG, i'd say the battles are p. important
not to mention the number of occurences; in total time spent doing them it's not that much but considering the number of times you'll be doing them... ya goowan
they didn't bother me per se, i just think the "lol it's just one screen shut up dp" argument is kind of retarded
so
the bus travelling scenes did bother me tho, i had to use my emulator's fastforward function through those nyandood;
the references are all very much timeless things, particularly The Beatles
also i agree it's not really a small thing to not like how the battles look. i mean, you're going to be looking at them throughout the entire game. if you can't get used to that stylistic choice, it's going to at least somehwat hamper your enjoyment. i though you guys were more reasonable than that lol
still, i can't imagine it being very easy to dislike it to the degree it would take to just not want to play the game lol
ANYWAY, this is one of those instances where i'm really glad it's coming out but it's not like i'm gonna get it. i'm just glad it's coming out because this is fucking important. it's extremely important that this is finally coming out here. nintendo is finally willing to let the US fans show them that we want this series here.
but if its sales aren't in the mega-millions, nintendo will use that as an excuse to never localize an obscure japanese game again cry;
well even if that is the case, at least we can finally say we've got an affordable way to own earthbound legally
but god do i hope they give us mother 3 PLEASE

i accidentally abused my emulator's fastforward and ruined mother 3 for myself
also mother 1 was so boring to play i just couldn't do it

ugh :(
Man, frank nintendo.
I read the interview with Itoi about the Wii-U release a couple weeks back, so I'm not surprised that it's finally going to come out here the way Iwata was talking, going on about how now is the right time to re-release it. But really, why can't the VC store work with both the Wii and the Wii-U? I feel like I'm being screwed. What happened to all the reasons why the big N couldn't release it on the VC before?
Why have u betray me ninten?
On the other hand now would probably be the smartest time to sell my cartridge, but that's not going to happen.
And I just finished replaying EB so I can say that the battle screen is close to half the game. It's a pretty challenging game that forces you to grind and die over and over. Well worth it to me, and the music is really variant but the game's dialog is where it shines the most IMO. But sometimes you can spend an hour running around trying to figure out what to do, just because you didn't talk to one person and trigger the story to continue.
Like in the desert with the traffic jam, I spent a while going in the monkey sanctuary trying to trigger something to let me talk to Talah Ramah then finally walked around to the other side of the traffic jam and it was gone, and I was like damn. Then right after that, they're digging for gold and I'm like how do I get them to finish their dig? Forget it I'm going to Fourside, and as soon as you leave the desert, you get stopped on the bridge by the guy in the dozer who tells you they found a Diamond.
Still amazing game, the inspirational coffee and tea breaks had me feeling like a little kid just so awesome! the ending is very creative. Oh organisms can't travel through time; but robots can!
