QuoteThe new technology, to be unveiled Wednesday along with the new console, will allow users to play games delivered over the Internet, these people said. The streaming service, they added, is designed to use current PlayStation 3 titles on the new console; the new device is also expected to play new games stored on optical discs.

i think sony would really be shooting itself in the foot if it removed backward compatibility from word go this time around lol ;-;
i do too, but knowing how much sony seems to love shooting itself, i'm not exactly optimistic cry;
i guess this is mainly so that the ps3's psn games are still playable on the ps4, but i'm not so sure disc games will be so lucky

that feel when it'll be a ps- exclusive feature[/spoiler]

Sony probably was in that for the long haul. Offer everything free up front, and then add a subscription service and start adding things to that, and then when the new console comes along they can transition some of that free stuff over to the subscription.

yeah, i can't say i didn't see that happening :'(
if you own a ps3 why is backwards compatibility such a big deal

it's extremely convenient, plus there's no guarantee any ps3 will work forever, and i'd rather not have to go buy a new one when it inevitably breaks
plus i'm sure sony is hoping for more than just ps3 owners to buy the ps4 lol
Number of systems/devices you have hooked up to your TV at any single time taking up space and having to switch between them.
>streaming games
hey guys remember onlive
from what ive heard, yes the ps4 wont play ps3 and below discs.
but its better than xboxs rumors right now, which they say will have digital watermarks on the games that prevents them from playing in more than one system.
only a rumor, but if true, then microsoft is in deeper trouble than sony
