It is in some respects, but you can make some guesses based on their attitudes toward individualism as opposed to collectivism. But I'm inclined to agree somewhat because modern political brands/identities in America are all kinds of fucked.
It is interesting, though. Conservatism in America is different from its European counterpart. Ostensibly, conservatives in America seek to conserve liberalism (in the classical sense) though they fail miserably at it. Meanwhile, Torys in England began seeking to conserve the divine right theory of kings. Our concept of "right-wing" versus "left-wing" originates in the legislative divide in the French Revolution between the liberal radicals seeking to eliminate the aristocracy and those who wanted to preserve the Ancien Regime.
