Title: Have you tried any voxel-based games that aren't minecraft?
Post by: strongbad on December 17, 2012, 11:04:23 AM
There seem to be a shitload that I keep hearing about prior to release and then never again.

For example, this game looks really fucking good:

Have you ever heard of Ace of Spades (http://www.aceofspades.com/)? It's a shooter/builder type Voxel based game that just came out on Steam. I tried it before it came out and it was pretty fun, you should take a look if you haven't.

cubeworld looks pretty neat, and minecraft isn't really voxel-based, just very blocky

Voxel-based would mean 3D cubes in place of every pixel, like 3D Dot Game Heroes. The blocks in Minecraft are actually boxes with flat textures on them. There are also flat 2D objects, layers, and objects that aren't composed of blocks (or voxels).

Despite having a bitch of a time on some of the bosses, I don't really think it's too hard. It's challenging, but not in an intimidating way.

I got to the flame temple boss and then gave up forever. Though, in my defense, it's kind of shitty to ut a boss in your game that has infinity hp.

the bosses in 3ddgh really do simply take too long to kill and that's honestly just bad design lol

because there's no variety, it's not like they change forms or anything. they just get a little faster and more frustrating as you hack away at them for twenty minutes.
