Wow, what a waste of a redesign. awdood;
lmao
aren't they going to lose more profit or something.
"The new 3DS is entitled the LL, and boasts a 4.18 inch length."
what
"The new 3DS will have longer battery life, but an AC adapter won't be included with the system in order to keep costs down (it will be available for purchase separately)."
lol
Nintendo is showing all the signs of a sinking ship that's trying stuff that worked once in hopes that it'll help again before the Wii Ew sits on store shelves goowan
off topic, but
as i was watching nintendo direct a moment ago, they previewed the new super mario bros. 2 with mario collecting coins and...new ways of collecting coins. coins everywhere. what the fuck is this

My wallet hurts, but my fat hands sure will be happy.
At least your content can be transferred now. goowan
The buttons appear to be just as pitifully small as they are on the original, so will that really remedy the issue? confuseddood;
The buttons were fine. It was the small system that got my hands.
That and the awful weight distribution befuddlement

I really need the XL, David. :(
:(
Do you see why I've been begging for one? :(
I can see why you would want one. But Nintendo really should have better foresight gonk;
also, the pixel density on the 3ds xl i xd sp myface;
I've never so much as touched a 3DS, but the Start/Select/Home buttons on it have always looked odd to me and like I imagine it'd feel like the buttons aren't separated at all from the surrounding surface. Looks like they're switching back to regular buttons there for the XL.
I've never used a DSi XL either for that matter, so I lack familiarity with
both of the systems that this 3DS XL is related to. Wasn't DSiXL's larger viewing angle a notable feature? It's not like they can keep that with 3D goowan
Considering that I don't have much use for portability anyways (and if I do bring a game system somewhere, it's in a bag, not a pocket), I guess XL would be better for me for when I do actually get a 3DS.

What issue of foresight is there? Not including a second circle pad? If you mean something else, I wouldn't doubt that they had this XL model planned since before the regular 3DS launched and simply decided to hold off announcing/releasing until later because it helps sales to release them separately.
At least, It's much better (about 45% higher ppi) than the DSi XL's pixel density. It's actually a very slightly higher pixel density (3.77px/mm) than my 1920px/52cm wide (3.68px/mm) computer monitor.
Hey David, the XL model won't have the black on XX color scheme. It's all one color now. goowan
By foresight I mean seeing how this can upset people, how a higher res display would have been better etc

how much honestly can that reduce cost buy? i mean the packaging is already large, so i doubt you save that much on shipping
I just wish they'd strap a dc jack on there like the old days
i wish they could just use a standard usb port, but there's probably limitations to usb charging speed awdood;

idk shit about this, but i'm p. sure it's only faster if you have a usb 3.0 port at hand, which still to this day isn't the case for a lot of people, me included

i don't see why you wouldn't, but they'd have to include a charger in the box which for some insane reason is what they're now trying to avoid awdood;
they could get away with not including a charger using usb 2.0 since it's so ubiquitous but 3.0 is still p. uncommon lol >.<

honestly, it seems like an even less effective 'cost-cutting' measure than those sony tried with the ps3 confuseddood;
lol which of sony's cost-cutting measures are you referring to y/n
While not providing a charger seems stupid, I still think Sony's were far worse because they actually removed useful features. awdood;
removing the ps2 ans ps1 components from the motherboard, usb ports and memory card slots mostly
and true lol
Just so you guys all know, that only applies to Japan. It comes with a charger in the US.

Beyond useful features, isn't being able to recharge the battery an essential feature for which a lack makes the entire system useless?
Or are the AC adapter and charging dock two separate parts and these announcements mean only one of those is missing in those regions?

Can't the PS3 play PS1 games perfectly fine as-is without dedicated PS1 hardware?
The memory card ports are in my opinion perfectly suited to being a separate USB accessory
Two USB ports seems sufficient for any use I can think of; even when using multiplayer it should be very unlikely to need to charge more than one controller at a time and the only USB accessory I know of that's actively used in gameplay is the eyetoy. If anything about the USB ports is annoying, it's that they're unpowered when the system is off.
But lack of PS2 game support in all remotely recent models is a really annoying cost-cutting measure awdood;

their logic is that everyone in japan owns a 3ds or dsi so everyone should already have a charger, and if not they can purchase one separately
It looks like they've done away with the charging dock entirely. befuddlement

agreed, i can live with the removal of the card readers which i never used and the other two usb ports and the slimming down of the console, but ps2 compatibility was an essential feature awdood;
the 3ds xl will not be compatible with the existing circle pad pro accessory obviously
I can't wait for the new Circle Pad Pro XL. RUB IT

I was thinking the same thing. srsly
If they're not going to include an AC adaptor, it should at least be some sort of plug that everybody really does have. If you didn't buy a DSi or 3DS, then you'll need to spend $19.99-$29.99 on top of $200 just to charge the damn thing. akudood;
I don't see the point in getting the XL/LL version of the 3DS. The screens are fine as it is (though I'd like to play an XL/LL at some point and see the difference), and honestly it looks too big.

Refer to my picture on the first page.
Really big hands. :(
Nintendo of America confirmed an AC adapter and a 4 GB memory card with the XL for North America.
