one of my friends was telling me about how almost all of my humor is at the expense of my self. something that i never really thought about, but it's pretty true. whenever something shitty happens it's easy to joke about it and get a reaction
for example, something that happened to me recently
i was running to catch this bus before it left. i sliped, and fell on my face in front of the bus. i looked up, and i could see people looking down at me. as i stood up, the bus drove away and probably around 10 people watched me in my misery
kind of sucked but something i joked about a lot with my friends after it happened
also louis ck does it a lot, so maybe i'm just trying to be like him
what do you guys think
It depends really. Some self deprecating humour isn't such a bad thing, but if you go overboard with it and it's all you use then yes it's kind of a bad thing
i think if you tell jokes you should be put against a wall and blasted until your body is holier than the bible.
It could be a "symptom" of something worse. But I wouldn't say it's necessarily bad. Though I'm sure something like this is different in each persons case. So even if it is bad for somebody else it may not automatically be bad for yourself.
I would take a little time and reflect on all of the possible reasons that you do this to see if it's just something you do or if there are any unhealthy reasons behind it or if you're just trying to hide behind it or something.
I don't know if it's necessarily something that I do primarily, but it is definitely something that I've noticed. I do have respect for myself and such, so I guess it's not some kind of slip about my feelings regarding myself. Maybe it is though.
I think it can be good because it can diffuse awkward situations and lets people know you are comfortable with yourself
Just as long it isn't your only form of humor n_u
when i missed the bus one time, i waited to wave to the students as they were on the lane farthest from me
i really don't think it's bad, but i'll admit that on some occasions it'd be sad and/or "awkward" for me to hear that kind of humor from people, even if they truly were joking. maybe i'd make people feel uncomfortable- especially to people who think im gonna do suicide
i think it's an important thing to do once in a while

Agreed. Take note,
DAVID and
TEC
:(
lol it really is my only form of humor :'(
i think if you can't take a joke about yourself then you should work on your self-esteem, but the same applies if you're just constantly putting yourself down with jokes. so it's good in moderation, but not constantly.

That's just their bad esteem talking through stale humor

I have a terrible self-esteem too, but it's not worth caring as much about n_u
and that time was intentionally self-deprecating
come on dude, this is like Jesus or Gandhi making a thread asking if peaceful demonstration is a good thing. don't ask dumb shit, and do whatever you fucking want.

if you constantly joke about yourself, people will get annoyed because it feels like you're always trying to bring them down or receive some sort of pity. i know from firsthand experience akudood;
if you can joke about yourself occasionally, then it shows you're not too damn arrogant, but if you go out of your way to pretend you're dumber than average around others, then nobody wants to be around you because you're just depressing
