Boyah, I'm really, really sick of this whole "geek is chic" thing these days. All these fucking girls who think they're geeky because they've watched someone play Portal and they've gotten through 3 levels on Super Meat Boy. And then they buy a shirt. And post a picture of themselves wearing it on Reddit.
Sorry, just ranting. Particularly annoyed by this trend right at this moment, not saying it's anything new. akudood;
i have No Idea what you are Talking about, but fuck geeks.
My ex loved doctor who, but knew nothing of anything past the christopher eccleston era.
also she tried to convince me that saruman was always evil. smh

I agree. False pretenses suck.
that's a pretty short "rant"
But it's really not just women. There are guys out there that played some MW2/3 and think they're the hardest of hardcore gamers, and girls that play it just for the attention of these guys. All these people try to "outgeek" each other, and if you point out that it's really not all that special, then they get pissed. Really, if you think Portal is the pinnacle of gaming, you probably haven't been playing games for very long and/or you should probably try to form your own opinions instead of parroting what other people say to be cool. akudood;
The biggest problem is these people are trying to put themselves in the same class as people with genuine hobbies and they're trying to push them out. There's nothing worse than some bro guy that's played maybe 10 games in his life telling me and my 700 games that my tastes suck and that I need to play a real game, like Madden. akudood;
It wouldn't be so bad if people kept this shit to themselves, but the problem is it's not a hobby--it's merely some crazy "fashion statement", where they can't be seen not being somewhat geeky (because then they give off the image of being shallow and dumb), but at the same time, their tastes are very shallow and they have no legitimate interest in what they do. akudood;
Fuck these new-gen "nerds." It's people like Ulillillia that I admire.

Fuck geek chicks.
I'd rather have a completely non-geeky girl that's earnestly interested in
something, even if it's bullshit like fashion, than a woman that tries hard to look nerdier than her friends merely for the sake of attracting men. akudood;
Does this happen in real life or is this just a way to get views online? Seems more like the later since geeks are more prevalent on the internet

i would say it's more prevalent on the net but it's definitely bleeding out into real life in a big way.
Well if it has any influence on moving girls from the uggs northface leggings combo I would tolerate it
that feel when redditors will give 5000 actual upvotes to any chick that poses in a picture with anything portal related
that feel when if you say something about how it's bullshit, you get downvoted 2084029 times and they say "if you have nothing nice to say, then don't say anything at all!!!!" or "this is why girls aren't on the internet!!!"
that feel when a guy takes a similar picture and everybody's like "okay whatever get the fuck out of here"
that feel when you realize these are adult men akudood;

how do they think that looks good
at least they're not personally coming up to me and trying to brag about how they know more about X than i do or trying to show off to me personally

like, i'm like seriously mad, like you know?
but they are so kawaii~~~
plus they read a book
I wish things like gaming had more even gender ratios without silly culturally-defined gendered interest differences :'(
It's particularly annoying for me because of identifying as female while having a couple very male-dominated interests and also because of being attracted to females while preferring people who share more interests with me, but this unbalanced gender ratio can also be seen as the reason this issue of them receiving so much attention exists in the first place
but aside from that, yes, it's pretty annoying that plenty of people like to call themselves geeks and gamers just because of playing the currently most popular FPS/MMO/whatever and that so many guys on the internet give such excessive attention to girls who do so.
Though plenty of them are hardly truly interested in video games, some of the excessively popular gamer girls on the internet are significantly less annoying when it's clear that they actually held interest in gaming before trying to seek attention for it. Like Sam n_u
This is a good thread.
Honestly, I think that women becoming more common on the internet is strange. Sexuality and gender make things so much more complicated.

I don't think he has a problem with north cave coats/rain jackets, ect. I think he is complaining about the northface fleeces that a lot young women wear on a daily basis.
I have no problem with the uggs/leggings combo thing, because honestly if I were a girl I would probably wear something similar because they seem comfortable. plus the girls' asses are hanging out, why complain?

people are complaining about women wearing
fleeces now? that's really a thing?
Anyways, i agree with the main topic, but I've never seen it even on the level of any girl knowing what super meat boy is. Usually it's like "OMG I WATCHED MY BROTHER PLAY THE ORIGINAL ZELDA ON THE N64 AND I LOVE POKEMON SNAP I AM SUCH A NEEERRRRRRRRDDDDDD~~" or even a girl just thinking they're nerdy for wearing
glasses for christ's sake. It's weird, because people trying to give me advice on socializing have often told me I'm boring and need to be more passionate or something like that (which might be true) but then if anyone ever expresses any interest for anything then you're considered a huge nerd and/or hipster, unless of course you only like top 40 radio and call of duty, in which case you are a mindless idiot or whatever.
It really just pisses me off when people try to push some image of themselves, insist they're better for liking/disliking something in particular, pretending they like something/are a certain way when they clearly do/are not, criticize other people for liking/disliking something they do not, etc etc etc etc etc etc. Have I made my point?
It's all bullshit either way, so just do what you like and brush off the kids that are going through phases of trying to find themselves.
i didn't know reddit was real life. thank you guys for helping me realize that

I don't really have a problem with it either-- I was just saying that's what he was complaining about.
Though uggs? Ugh.
And I guess I do kinda not really like the whole leggings as pants thing. I think it looks really good with a long shirt or sweater or something. I think it's a little too informal and sweatpant like when there isn't anything even pretending to cover your ass.
Ugggggggggh uggs

not all of us want to see some girl's nasty ass akudood;
It's not appealing at all. It makes them look like they just walked out of a trailer park.
Oh my gosh, tell me about it. I don't even bring up that I occasionally play vidya games unless I'm asked.
Also I hate those enormous retarded douchebag tool hipster chic glasses without lenses.

that reminds me
One day, some girl walked into class with huge-ass glasses. She always smiled at me and would always come to me for help, even though I wasn't necessarily the best, so I think she liked me. Well, the one day she walked in with these--and she never wore glasses--I asked her why she was wearing those big, silly glasses.
She looked down and never wore them again. spam;
