and when you were waiting for your mom to get off the phone so you could use the internet, you could try to connect and you'd get to listen to her phone conversation right from the comfort of your computer chair?
hocuspocus;
no sillydood;
we had a second phone line just for dial-up. so, no. cry;
Yes, luckily we got a second phone line when I moved. I can't believe I was even able to play MMOs over dial up actuallly confuseddood;

I still have no idea who Fred Durst is
I never used dial-up sillydood;
these damn youngsters
No, never had it. I first got internet access at home in 2005. sillydood;
It's not necessarily that I'm too young, but rather it took my family way too long to even own a computer
Our first one was bought at the very end of 2005, at a point where all my classmates had and used their computers for school assignments and I was weird for not having one. We first had DSL only for a couple months then Verizon installed fios in our area before I could even become accustomed to DSL.
I joined Nsider within like one month of first having Internet access sillydood;

my grandma finally stopped using AOL dial-up last year
she'd been with them for literally my entire life up to last year
We had internet for a few months back in like 98. My sister used to chat on icq alot, and my mom never used it, and I would go to the nintendo website and create my own yoshi.
I walked in on my dad watching porn and gambling online (in the same window, no less)
my mom canceled the internet two days later.

hocuspocus;
My sister did that on a few different occasions. And there was also a sweet spot that you could pick up a cordless phone conversation with a walkie-talkie.

i had dial-up from 1997 to 1999 until we signed up for DSL in rural GA
I mean I have memories of using dial-up but for the most part I didn't use the internet a whole lot until internet speeds were slightly more reasonable
my household didn't get internet until 2003 maybe and I remember it being a huge operation. my mom got this massive laptop in a box that was about 6ft square for some reason ... she was really concerned about the Evils of the Internet and insisted on checking on me every half minute while I was using her laptop (in the kitchen) ... I didn't really know about the internet yet and was like 'um........ nintendo . com????' and joined NSider a few weeks later lubdoods;

wow lol
edit: i also remember knowing about porn but obviously couldn't investigate on my mom's kitchen computer; I had a desktop in my room but it didn't have internet, and I didn't understand how the fuck internet wires worked at all. to solve this dilemma I tried plugging a phone line into my computer and installing the software off of a free AOL disc LMAO .
my dad openly watched porn and had webcam sex in front of everyone
