Not really at all though.
When I was pretty young there was this expose on 20/20 or something and my parents happened to be watching it. I was in the same room, so I naturally saw it.
The segment was on the dangers of microwaves and the issue of super superheated water. Basically, they were arguing that microwaves would heat water past the boiling point (steam, duh) and that when a metal spoon would be placed into it, the whole bowl of water would react and explode in the person's face.
They showed all these examples of it happening on those styrofoam dummy busts.
So now when I microwave soup, I fully expect it to explode in my face when I put my spoon in.
Try calling that not damaging. AWESOME
As long as you don't use distilled water and are careful not to reboil the water over and over in the same container without taking it out of the microwave you're pretty much safe.

and like ypr said if anything is in the water you're good.
so just keep a bunch of popsicle sticks around and put them in it if you are that scared

I saw a commercial on a television about hamsters beat dancing to every day I'm shuffling wearing bright clothes and beanie caps, compelling robot warriors sent after them to dance the same, in a vast and desolate wasteland. The hamsters drive in the car and say, soul, yeah.
I can imagine an earlier generation somehow looking at this and determining that we must be insane and unimaginable. An uncertainly strange race to approach very carefully.
Huh, and those of the future will look back fondly, thinking, hey, this was art. We have lost it. How can people relate to one another, whether now or in the past, when they live so vastly different? Their realities will be seen as different, and gradually grow meaningless.
We are amusing ourselves to death, for the sake of convenience.
