Dear Boyah,
I seek your advice in planning my adventures over semester break. My goal is to go new places and to see new things, or at least things I haven't seen since I was a small child. I will have just under one month (28 days) to see as much of the upper Midwest that I can, while still maintaining essential normal activities.
On December 10th I will be returning to Minneapolis, via the Empire Builder.
On the 11th, Ron will be joining me in Minneapolis. We will begin our subterranean UE binge as soon as I pick him up from the bus depot.
On the 13th, we will travel to Sandland, Wisconsin, where Slim Jim Hollison is constructing an underground tunnel maze. We will work a day in the mines there, before traveling to Winona, MN, to meet Trevor and explore some caves with him (?).
When we return to Minneapolis we will resume our drain/tunnel/cave binge.
On the 15th, Ron will leave Minneapolis.
On the 16th, I will return to work. I will work full-time from then on.
It appears that that weekend, the 16th-18th, will be my only opportunity for a long-distance escapade. I am thinking of maybe driving up through Duluth, across the range, through northern MN (hi, Kaz) and up to Winnipeg and then back down through North Dakota. Does anyone have any ideas of specific places to see along or close to that route? Or perhaps a different suggestion entirely?
Dude I don't even know what tomorrow brings. You're entirely too smug with the world. And I did not see not one reference to durgs. What kind of a man are you?
I like things clear. At least in my head.
It makes me feel secure.
But see the thing is, once you start down that road, then everything has to be planned and foreseen, otherwise you will reach the other side, and there will be nothing there. At which point your security will take a massive dose of panic.

What? I wasn't talking about planning-- I was talking about drugs.

What in the world would ever make you think that drugs obscure your clarity? That's more on the person.

I definitely think it's the way the your brain deals with the drugs that makes them foggy. Over the weekend of December 16th - December 18th Drew should try mushrooms and see how that goes

It's not about foggy-- it's about not crisp like a winter's morning on the lake or a freeway in the eyeing sun or tall red grass.

Money is pretty crisp too, when it comes right out of the press. But the best, is an icy winter breath, crisp as a shard of glass into your lungs.
oh man this thread

Man, I'm craving a good snowfall up here. We're supposed to get like .01" tomorrow.
Call everything off.
We had snow in October and then early autumn weather ever since. saddood;
I went to where Hiro is and it was so snowy like a month ago but then I went back last week, and it wasn't snowy just cold but the mountain was snowy.

Well, why should I like Madison? It's an overgrown college town.

I know a LOT of people that live there but I think you are the only person who loves there that I would really want to hang out with.

I think I misread your intentions for the trip anyway, for some reason I thought you were visiting Trevor, Kaz, and ME## (who you didn't even mention in the first post)
I'm just crazy today I guess philip;

Oh. Sorry. If I were doing an Upper Midwest trip I would visit you, but I am not. I am going to be less than an hour from Winona when I am in Sandland and also there are caves near Winona. And I am going north to visit Duluth which I haven't been to since I was like 11 or something and then across the range to see old mines and such. And Winnipeg because I haven't been anywhere in Ontario other than Quetico, which is virtually identical to the BWCA. Also I haven't really even been to that part of the state ever even though I've lived in Minnesota my whole life.

it is getting colder wrench;
Every time I watch the news and see that talking bowtie dude, I think of you when they show the map, and wonder how and where your part of the city is. It feels a little reasuring, that you suffer the same winds of chance, and bask in the sunny glory of it too. I might have even passed you on the street!
if you ever rode the train to tullytown (idk why you would, rotten place with the only memorable landmark is a landfill) you saw my place of Work. and probably saw me too.
Tullytown is the last exist on route one north before New York! I have taken thst exist almost every weekday for the last few months. It is part of my drive and high plan, which starts on Street road and ends in a mad dash at Tullytown. It sucked for a while because they were fixing the ramp on Tyburn road and I could not travel down the back woods and abandoned buildings. They have that gay industrial zone at the very end with no outlets but many illegal uturn I have made there. I had to jerk myself around Morristown to get back. Holy shit I could drive there now if I wanted to. We are definitely chilling soon.
we could get pizza at v&s because that is the only thing i really know to do.

We could talk to this little old lady that guards the crossing everyday from 2:30 to three on Philadelphia avenue. She drives a minivan and parks it nearby. I have never seen any school cbildren there but I have named her Fran. She sits in a little wicker chair with her mouth open and tongue out, waiting for the undertaker. Otherwise we can do whatever we want. We can blow rails off Fran's tits for all I care.
idk, you really want to drive from mpls to winnipeg and back in December?

Having never tried something? Are we talking about shrooms like she suggested after I posted this or are we talking about pot? Because I have smoked.

YA HIRO IS IT SNOWING!?!?!?
I haven't looked in this thread in a while but yeah it snowed a good deal over the weekend and now everything's just covered in ice. I think the low today was -4 or something like that.
Holy shit, yesterday was fucking crazy. From crawling to tiny pipes filled with gravel to walking for miles down a 15-foot diameter tunnel over 200 feet beneath the surface. From popping a series of manholes on the side of the interstate, unsure which was the right one, to being questioned by the saint Paul police. Day 1 of twin cities UE rampage was fucking great.
Oh my god I have never been so dirty ever. I just washed enough sand out of my hair and off my body to clog the shower drain, and after 30 minutes of vigorous scrubbing, there is still some sand in my hair.
Since I last posted in this thread I have walked over 17 miles in drains, some as old as 1890, visited a natural show cave that has been sealed except for a pants-shredding 60 foot squeeze since the 1850s, climbed among the taraces and the subbasements of what was the world's largest flour mill when it opened in 1861, visited sealed prohibition beer-smuggling caves, featuring running trucks disgused as milk trucks, dug about a foot of a chattiere into the largest cave in saint paul (the 38-foot dig has less than 5 feet left!!) and mined about 8 feet of tunnel at sandland.
I have been exploring almost nonstop since Sunday, and don't plan on stopping until Thursday.
Damn, you have fun guy hocuspocus;
DREW
HOLY SHIT
SO CLOSE
um so i guess i didn't go to baudette lol...
poor kaz :(
yeah sorry kaz the last 9 days have been fucking crazy as fuck
lol it's okay, maybe next time
I have been spending my time selling furniture out of a basement warehouse and digging s tunnel to a sealed cave in saint Paul.
Wow huge abandoned sand mine under saint Paul last night. Miles of tunnels, all about 25 feet wide and 40-60 feet high. They curve around in parts and are all honeycombed in others in a big grid of tunnels. It was really cool. There is a whole second (larger) half to the mine but it is separated from this part by a large collapsed area. You can get in from the other side but there's security and stuff so it's harder but holy shot this was one of the coolest places I have ever been. I would love to have a fuming car down there.
And afterwards we did some drains too, and they were good interesting ones.
Another huge mine. We got in through a hidden entrance that we had to dig becuSe they are gently sealed. One of the people I was with smelt that cave smell and once be pointed it out we all could, and it led us to where to dig lol. Fucking bloodhounds. It was a huge mine tha was later a brewery cave. Three teens died of asphyxiation in it in like 2007. It was really complex, and there were brown recourse in it lol. Then we went to another cave system underneath a huge abandoned brewery. That was cool, and so were the insides and the roof of the brewery. Really pretty view of downtown saint paul.
Possible to get pictures of these tunnels, they sound inspiring.
