like if you live in minnesota it seems like if you're any kind of writer or musician you are going to inevitably be talking about bob dylan a lot
because he's minnesotan
and because he's bob dylan
is there any famous person from where you live that comes up in conversation too much? like any artist of some sort that has a huge influence on the area's culture?
because seriously it gets a little tiring hearing about bob dylan so much. goddamn zimmophiles. but i'm kind of one of them too so its ok.
I seriously cannot think of anybody. What artist has AZ pride

Bob Dylan doesn't come up very often in Minnesota, at least not in my experience. If there is a musician that comes up too often in Minnesota it is Prince.
i honestly can't stand bob dylan just cause of his voice save a few songs. >;] hate me boyah
and No.

really? man i would think it would happen even MORE often in the Twin Cities area. idk. i mean it's mostly among fellow writers or other sorts of writers that he comes up constantly, in my experience. hmm.
Prince doesn't come up enough
Prince is great. everyone talk about prince. we should be proud he was born on this planet.

I've always associated him with the range.

the best part of Purple Rain was when Prince's dad punched him in the face.
Also, Thomas Wolfe is mentioned a lot by the town officials, though I haven't met anyone who has actually read anything of his.

As much time as I've spent at first ave over the years, I've never actually seen that movie. I now feel the desire to watch it.

well he spent a lot of time in the twin cities and was a huge part of the whole dinkytown folk music circuit and such and wait i'm sure you already know all of this by now
but yeah i think the range associates itself with him too
but i hear he's never showed up for Dylan Days in Hibbing

Hibbing
I have a tremendous want to visit Hibbing. Alone. And slowly. Preferably in that time of year when snow is just melting and the ground if perpetually wet and it is chilly but sunny and the whole earth is glorious. I want to see the moon.
Quebec culture is a huge circlejerk. n_u

you should keep posting things like that, it helps me appreciate this state more n_u
for the longest time i would always say i hate living here. i do not think this is so anymore, but there are still some parts that majorly suck about living in RURAL minnesota. there are perks though.

I recently followed the Saint Lawrence all the way through on Google Maps. I would love to do that in real life someday.

Honestly, I think anywhere honest is beautiful and would be wonderful to visit and experience. Minnesota is very honest.
Very little of Minnesota is traditional plains rural. Even the southwest, which I would consider the least interesting part of the sate has the Minnesota valley, which is very interesting, to me at least. I guess the very far southwestern corner of the state, and the triangle east of I-35, north of I-94, and west of the border are both places that are very similar to elsewhere, but other than that, Minnesota is a fairly unique place.

yeah I think I heard Prince mentioned a lot more, too. dylan in dinkytown though. there's even a nice mural. imo bob deserves prayers offered up to him every day, not to the man Bob Dylan (especially as he is now ugh), but to the idea he was when he was doing his cool stuff. those were world-changing words. the likes of rimbaud. sry generic

Like seriously we'd sit in our apartment and watch bands of drunk students stumble down the street screaming, literally
screaming, trying to fuck with anyone who walked by. Once I saw a guy actually start destroying a car right across the street and had to yell 'hey I'm calling the cops' to get him to leave. Thousands of fucking sheltered white kids who think they own the world because they suddenly have the 'freedom' to walk around this little college neighborhood and put on their big man front for everybody to see.
you do shit like that here, and someone will come fucking shoot you.
