Title: I have no ambition
Post by: Travis on September 29, 2011, 09:31:00 PM
I'm only going to go to college because of pressure/it is forced. I have no outstanding skills or talents to speak of and no preference for any sort of "career". What the fuck do I do

the only reason it would be a dead end is because you've preemptively declared it as one in your mind.  so you play an instrument?

skill is something you acquire from the time you spend doing it... not having skill is a reason to keep playing, not a reason to stop playing.  generally, anyone can be skilled at anything if they spend enough time doing it.

what do you play?

While it is possible to have no ambition, and certainly probable that you do not. Having no interest is completely inexcusable. You must have some insight about a facet of life which stirs you and which only you can truly figure out, beautifuly, honoring a secret duty which no one else can see but you. From a perspective so dedicated and careful. This must give you hope. Must fuel your dreams. Must make you think and breath and indeed live within the puzzle that confronts the maze. Forget tangible things like titles and tests, professions or grade. It's not about the pay. It can't come any other way. The primary must preceed the first. Once you have your character set, and have figured out reality, there is nothing that can stop you, really. It's all about what you want to do next. What makes you feel best. And you won't have to worry, as the security stems from the vest, which you keep in your heart, and brings you peace, wisdom and years to spend.

Otherwise it's an issue of ability. Which you might lack. Because you neglected yourself, and need to take a few steps back, and look at it from afar, to see the marvel of it all. That should kill you. It should make you burn and think of a million ways to affect a plan, to work and create something unique in all the land, and idea or a hand, and to bring it all home. To sit back and behold, what you have done. For the life of humanity. Oh how they will remember you then. Like a king among kings.

Some things we can show you, the door. But it is you who must see it and go through it. Because it is not just a door my friend, but a portal of the divine, full of mystery, hiding in plain sight, unless you know the secret, and enter for flight.

There is no such this as an uninteresting matter. Only a disinterested person.

as nyerp would say, that is retarded. you're basically saying it's impossible to put anything together unless the pieces are put in front of you. that is a terrible and sad way to live. I'm pretty sure if that's the way it worked I would have nothing that I have right now.

So what you're saying is if I want to be an NBA player all I have to do is work hard and my dreams will come true

Because that is hopelessly optimistic. Just because you have the desire and put in the effort doesn't guarantee success or results

right but it's not like everyone starts with a clean slate of talents or there's commonly agreed upon best courses to choose. I was saying that you only truly get what you work for and build for yourself out of nothing, whether it's everything you hoped or not. life is not given to you by circumstance.

Right that's fine, I'm just saying you can't necessarily be whatever you want to be. And often you will have to choose between things you want, letting one dream fade to chase another. Hard work makes it all more likely to happen, but I've known plenty of very hard working people who were unemployed or were stuck in a job they had no interest in but had to have in order to take care of their family.

Also some people do have it handed to them but those are few and far between

I would say that this is the cycle peddled to people to control them, and that anyone really could do anything as long as it suits their true interests. Nothing will end well if forced, and anything evolving naturally will be perfect, because that is what nature is. I don't see how my life could be what it is if this isn't true (ie I have gone after lofty and against-the-grain goals and so far enjoyed success, not without faltering many times along the way), unless 'luck' is a tangible concept, which it isn't.

I mean you can go on thinking that 'this is just the lot I was given' and try to 'do your best' with it, as if some imaginary outside force is pushing against you, but where does that put you? In some realm where you and all your expended energy are resigned to achieving the 'most likely'? I'd rather embrace everything I am as if (but only as if) it was meant to be that way and figure out how to bet it all against the odds to make it back double. It's life and life only, after all :)

I don't want to save the world, I don't have any deluded ideas about myself, like everyone else I thrive on the idea that sometime in the future I might have more of what I want. But I want it now, I'm not about to sit back and let the gears churn until magically my dream pops out in front of me with a sign up sheet (this is what most people think life is). I'm about to throw a fuckin wrench into the gears, climb up the side of machine, and call myself machine master when I get to the top, fuck yeah! I'm about to fuckin hack the game and make myself level 50 without doing all the pointless quests, because it's my game to play, motherfucker, I didn't accept any terms or conditions, I created myself. More people don't do this because they're fooled by the whole idea of the system and the process and the proper method and all that bullshit. People are especially misguided by the idea that everything is exactly as it seems and not actually dependent on the ideas everyone has in their heads but are too afraid to say. Decide what you want and invent your own system. Yeah, it's a lot of work to do your own thing instead of chain yourself to someone else's dream (slavery sucks but at least it's easy and you get food for the family right), that's what I'm saying.

I bumped into this girl last week I hadn't seen in a few years.

I asked her where she was all this time. Where she was studying. What she was studying.

She had been working in a gas station down in Las Vegas New Mexico for the last year and a half after she decided to drive down there on a whim.

That's really cool.

I want to be a television news writer. I'm pretty decided on that line of work. I'll be the guy that writes those fifteen second snippets that the anchors stumble over. I'll pack them full of alliterations and long words and the anchors will hate me, but when that teleprompter comes up, what are they going to do about it? Wing it?

My goal in life is to make local news anchors stutter.

It's funny you should say that. The other day I was driving to work and noticed the running monologue in my head resembled a script. I thought that I could do this for a living. Or writing freakish OP/EDs in the newsprint weekly. Who knows. Novels, perhaps? Or vignettes too. If school doesn't work out, which I have not completely lost faith in. I shall see to a life of writing. Passions and talent permitting.

If you invite me on your show. We can have a stutter fest when we trap the anchor boy.
