I saw like 5 minutes of this when I was like...4? My dad had recently hooked up the stolen cable, and this was playing on the television. But my parents thought it was weird and changed it.
also when do we stream this?
9:30 m8
i assumed it was tomorrow, as movie night seems to have unofficially sort of switched to saturday recently
I'd be down with tonight I think.
I've got nothing to do tonight, so yeah that would be better.

Well at the time of posting it would have been a half hour, but I think since it was kind of on-the-spot an extra half hour would make sense.

considering the delays we usually have (which is pretty much always people showing up late every goddamn time), we rarely start on time and it's usually more like 9:45 or even a bit later that we start
so i think you'd get your extra half hour either way

maybe i understood it better than i was supposed to but i honestly didn't find it that incoherent, except a few details that i don't really get, like why the other psychic kids originally tried to kill tetsuo but then decided not to? why didn't they keep trying to kill him if they knew that he was going to raise hell and abuse akira's power?
and what were they going to do when tetsuo's power reached its "peak?"
basically, their motives are extremely unclear. i can't tell if they want this new universe/forced evolution or not and i can't tell if tetsuo is their enemy or their friend.
either way i liked the movie a lot, but i fail to see how anyone can give it a perfect 10 on MAL, because if there is one thing that is seriously wrong with this movie, it is that it is far, far too rushed and vague. what's there is mostly understandable, but things like what i pointed out above are totally unrevealed and in the end the whole thing just moved way too fast.
speaking of things worth a 10 rating

I think that the kids stopped fighting akira because they were pissed off at that colonel.
I agree with Kaz. I had to look up some stuff online to understand. It was pretty rushed and I had a little trouble figuring out some details, but for the most part the story was easy for me to follow. The animation was really well done (as if it needs repeating at this point) and was very impressed with the way it was done.
After reading the plot summary on wikipedia it made a lot more sense to me. I also learned that the manga wasn't finished until 2 years after the movie was made, which explains why a lot of stuff towards the end was really unclear.
oh god they really DID shit out an ending
lmao is the manga ending even remotely close to the movie one goowan

Pretty similar, but not entirely. The manga's incredibly long so obviously it has a lot more elements to it:
QuoteKaneda and his new gang continue the assault on the Stadium that started in Volume 5. Tetsuo returns from his battle with Kei and faces Yamada's team, but absorbs their biological attacks and temporarily regains control of his powers. Tetsuo kills Yamada and the commandos; he also eludes Colonel Shikishima's attempts to kill him by guiding SOL with a laser designator. Kaneda confronts Tetsuo, and the two begin an epic fight; they are joined by Kei. However, the brawl is interrupted when the American navy"horrified by Tetsuo's previous attack"tries to carpet bomb Neo-Tokyo, then gut it outright with its own laser satellite, FLOYD. Tetsuo flies into space and brings down FLOYD, causing it to crash down upon the aircraft carrier, killing the navy's fleet admiral and some of the scientists.
After the battle, Tetsuo unsuccessfully tries to resurrect Kaori, a girl he had been acquainted with who was killed in the battle. He heads down to Akira's old cryogenic chamber beneath the stadium, carrying her body. Kaneda and his friends appear to fight Tetsuo once more, but his powers transform him into a monstrous mass resembling a fetus, absorbing everything near him. Tetsuo pulls the cryogenic chamber above-ground and drops it onto Lady Miyako's temple. Lady Miyako dies while defying Tetsuo, but not before guiding Kei into space to fire upon him with SOL. Kei's attack awakens Tetsuo's full powers, triggering a psionic reaction similar to Akira's.
With the help of Kiyoko, Masaru, and a resurrected Takashi, Akira is able to cancel out Tetsuo's explosion with one of his own.
Following the climax, the United Nations sends forces to help the surviving parties of Neo-Tokyo. Kaneda and his friends confront them, declaring the city's soverignty as the Great Tokyo Empire and warning them that Akira still lives. Kaneda and Kei meet up with Colonel Shikishima, and part ways as friends. As Kaneda and Kei ride through Neo-Tokyo, they see ghostly visions of Tetsuo and Yamagata. They also see the city shedding its ruined facade, returning to its former splendor.
Oh, and this:
QuoteKatsuhiro Otomo decried his fame and said that his conclusion of AKIRA was false in both the Japanese and American editions, and that he could never truly finish his epic.
that looks to be much more satisfying and less "loldeep"
also >Katsuhiro Otomo decried his fame
good n_n
