Title: Can you recommend me relaxing music?
Post by: Selkie on July 21, 2011, 06:55:37 AM
I want some albums that I can listen to when I want to just chill, or relieve stress, or maybe even to fall asleep to.

Something jazzy would be cook.

Plz help.

Also if you recommend an artist can you name at least one album to start with? thx

Something along the lines of Dave Brubaker's "Take Five", perhaps?  And there's always anything by Enya, who isn't so jazzy.

You might start with Brubakers' "Time Out" or "Time Further Out" albums.

There's a free Ambient collection online called Spheric Lounge that you might want to look into. I also turn on the Samurai Champloo soundtrack (Nujabes, Fat Jon, Tsuchie, others) for chillout stuff; you might want to skip right to Nujabes. For Jazz...I'd recommend turning on a late night radio station w/ Jazz and see what you like; Bob Parlocha does a really awesome radio show that you can get streaming online. It sounds like you'd be into small combo and ballad stuff, and less into free jazz, bebop, or big band.

sensual jazz for when you're bothered and your woman's ready, late in the evening, as the ashes smolder and the fire burns hot.

Thanks everyone for the ideas.

I love Jeff Golub

Also I'm not a huge fan of the free jazz stuff, though I do love Take Five. I'll check out the jazz radio stations.

Also, I am kinda looking for stuff a little more musical instrument oriented than ambient

If it's raining and kind of darker in your house, put this shit on.

This is a great album, but the musicianship is disgusting and I'm not sure how he can release this as a new piece of work... All it really is is some guy running a few reverb addled vinyl crackles over some old pre-war music.

But the repetition and kind of haunting drippiness it has when played as background music is fantastic.

So, unless the fucking goofy names of the tracks and the fact that someone is calling this an original work out there turns you off, give it a go.

Bohren & der Club of Gore is the first thing that comes to mind when someone wants relaxing and/or ambient jazz:
