I have never had to deal with the police in an emergency. And the interaction is something I generally prefer to avoid. Arbitrary third party intervention in the name of the state is not really my thing. As such, I hold, an abnormal view of the law and its enforcement. However, my instincts and beliefs aside, the actual record of my encounters with the police, has been a pretty mundane and positive one. Stop sign violation was reduced to no points in mediation. Fine minimal. Transaction respectful.

The other day a cop pulled me over because my left tail light was out. I knew like a dog for weeks but didn't tell him. And played dumb. Of course. He said it was a courtesy stop, and called me bud, asked me if I knew why I was in the wrong? I said the little sticker at the plate might have expired. He said, 'Nah, Nah.' Smelled inside, and it was pretty dank, junk sitting right in the console up front. Said I was from Philly but I work in Cherry Hill, at Toscana Restaurant, and was going over to see my boss. Gave him my stuff and he took off without the rest, punched in some stuff, and told me 'have a good one'. I was very thankful, and slid out of there dreadful. I was very thankful.

I knew he let me go. He didn't even scratch the surface and didn't want to. I could have been arrested easily, fined severely. Taillight. Possession. Influence. Can you say FUCK!?

The moral is, it's all about how you act and the image you present. Dressed in all black, watch, chain, my hair done back, blond, tie, and tan all over the top. My car was clean, stately, sightly, and kempt. I was respectful, soft spoken, mindful and cool. And I was telling the truth. The officer was awesome. And Said it was a 'courtesy stop'. How obliged was I!

Last year I has a course in American Policing. My instructor was an active Deputy Chief, in Upper Dublin, PA. Very, very cool guy! Bought and brought us donuts and coffee on his mid semester birthday! He fits the profile and is a regular guy. Honest and current, which is pretty humble of him. I aced the class and peppered it with questions, lots of comments too. And the end of the day, it's not about them, but about what you do.

And I play it cool. So rarely have I had a terrible scare.

Work bud. Sorry. I gotta present the family act and eat and deal with my pops for a little bit. But I'll be back after that, and see what's up.
