I adopted a dog from the animal shelter two years ago and was told the dog was already microchipped by the shelter. His previous owners had found him as a stray in late 2008 and had given him to the shelter in mid '09. Now, when I went to change the microchip information on the dog today, his microchip number had hit a lost dog flag on the computer for some undisclosed third party. Since a dog is inherently property, he was taken in by the animal shelter and we've been in possession of the dog for a relatively long time, isn't it technically mine? I am pissed that the animal shelter had not bothered to actually scan the microchip during the intake.
