Title: iOS Tracking
Post by: applesauce on April 21, 2011, 04:49:17 PM
So it's been all over the news lately that devices running iOS 4 have been storing all your triangulation data in a backup file. I was really interested to see what mine looked like. I converted the file to a .kmz (yay Linux  hocuspocus; ) and put it in google earth. I tried using http://www.redcode.nl/ with Windows 7, but it didn't work. If you have osX, you can use this: http://petewarden.github.com/iPhoneTracker/

You bros should post yours. Here's mine:

Mine has only been recording since mid-Jan when I got my new phone. I think it's real cool nonetheless.

Meh, it's not like it's being uploaded to any ad agencies or anything, and I really don't have anything to hide. I actually think it looks real cool

All this creepy ass map shows is one of 5 things

1. Where I live
2. Where my girlfriend lives
3. Where I go to school
4. Where my girlfriend goes to school
5. Where I like to hang out

this is kind of cool:

Road trips
(http://boyah.net/wziard/ios1.jpg)

LA (driving on the 10 lol)

Upper midwest (don't remember going to Rochester or half these places recently... or that burst NE of Des Moines?)

Twin Cities (I live in the middle)

but seriously, it worries me a bit that my phone thoroughly logs my location even when it's not being used... apple should get rid of that to lighten the code/resource load if anything

^I wish someone would make a nice widows or linux version of that. It's a lot prettier than my shitty file conversion.  :(

Google makes its money advertising I wouldn't be surprised if anything done on the android was sold for marketing purposes.
