I'm registering right now and it clearly states that it's men only. I'm sure most of you knew this already, and now that I think of it so did I, but what the fuck? This has been around for so long, and feminist rights bitches are complaining about every little form of equality, so why the hell don't they have to register? I might be late to this argument, but seriously what the fuck
Quote"The existence of the combat restrictions clearly indicates the basis for Congress' decision to exempt women from registration. The purpose of registration was to prepare for a draft of combat troops. Since women are excluded from combat, Congress concluded that they would not be needed in the event of a draft, and therefore decided not to register them."[37]

I should find my card for that

Wut? Lololololol Man, you're sooooo 1940's. Get with the movement. Feminists don't want complete equality because the standards of equality were created by men. They recognize some differences between the sexes, and instead of complete equality, they want an end to oppression.
And man, you gotta get with the movement. There's hot debate about women's rights in the military right now.

Yeah women don't want it cut down the middle, which is why they opposed the Equal Rights Amendment, which they argued would have taken away some of their exclusive working rights, given men equal footing in divorce/custody cases, required women to register for the draft, and blur the line between the sexes.
thank god is doing budget money oriented wars or esle. no need for ad raft

I don't know what I said that was wrong... I was taught about the ERA by a feminist history teacher and she didn't cover up the reasons for why it wasn't successful huhdoodame;
There are no women on Boyah because there is no activity on boyah
There's no activity because there's no girls.

The ERA was drafted and supported by feminist groups. Conservative rich women were against it, yes... But not all women were against it, and it wasn't really opposed by feminists... Unless there's another ERA that I don't know about O_0
And a feminist is one who recognizes the discrimination against women in our society and is one who wishes to end that discrimination. That is all. If you meet these two qualifications, you too are a feminist.
People have this strange image of feminists demanding more power than men... And while some do, the majority don't fight in that direction (and I mean the VAST majority). Perhaps the right winged media has painted a negative picture of feminists and some people are buying into it. n_u

Those are people who want equal treatment, not feminazis, Hippo. huhdoodame;
I was just saying all women (or most) want to have more power than men do right now, and have more power over men. Although man or woman, pretty much anybody doesn't want to be on the bottom of the totem pole. They always want more power than the next guy, never just the same amount.

You can define "feminazis" as the extreme feminists, but the definition of feminism itself doesn't go any further than equal rights.

So then why did such a generally accepted principle fail if such a majority of women were in support of the bill? I guarantee you most women are not in favor of being eligible for selective service.
yes but do most femisnists do oyu god damn cock shit. god dammit

So then why did such a generally accepted principle fail if such a majority of women were in support of the bill? I guarantee you most women are not in favor of being eligible for selective service.
Because it isn't a generally accepted principle...
It failed because some people believed woman had no place in the front lines. Heaven forbid they get their periods during combat, and we all know that women can't camp in dirty open spaces. That's just silly. No, women shouldn't be eligible to fight in combat. Therefore, kill the amendment. (Keep in mind most men in higher, influential places in the military think this)
Are feminists interested in women having the option to fight in combat? Yes. Yes they are. They are also interested in women being able to hold high ranking positions which are usually only offered to men.
And I can guarantee that most men aren't in favor of being eligible for selective service either... So I doubt we're going to see protests for women being eligible for selective service, but that's not what they are fighting for. Instead, we will see protests for the structure of the military to change... And if that change means that women have to be apart of the selective service, they'll take it.
And there are other reasons that the ERA failed... Such as many conservative religious groups (Catholic Church, the Mormons, etc.) providing financial aid for campaigns against the amendment. Also, there was fear that blurring the sex distinction would cause mass hysteria in public restrooms. Also the amendment might *GASP* destroy "traditional family values." Not to mention this bill was trying to be passed when Reagan was newly elected.
There are soooo many factors.. I *HIGHLY* doubt that because most women just didn't want to be drafted away, they killed the amendment themselves.... But I bet you anything that conservatives put that little tid bit in the media in order to scare women into not supporting this bill. The draft is scary... But feminists still want an end to discrimination, even in the military.
And just a disclaimer:
I'm not angry about this at all. I just come under a lot of fire for being a feminist (I lug around a feminist theory book with me this semester so it's obvious that I am one), and I just get appalled by some people's attitudes towards feminism. But the thing is, I don't think people really know what feminism is... Especially the liberal anti-feminists. That just doesn't make sense to me.
Anywho, I just thought boyah would be more open to an end of discrimination towards women. It just caught me by surprise... But maybe you guys are, and I'm just missing the joke.

I am open to an end of discrimination, I just reject the idea that it's men holding back progress when there are women equally against the idea.
Also the issue of women in combat is a much more complicated issue than when they have their periods. There are physical and psychological differences that may hinder a group's effectiveness. For example, male soldiers tend to have a more aggressive reaction when a female comrade is shot and lose control over their surroundings. Furthermore, not all countries are quite so socially advanced and their view on women is not one of equality. There is concern over the fact that women soldiers may be subject to rape and also that they may not be respected as a legitimate threat.
