Title: I think my Cat's dying....
Post by: KonohaShinobi on July 26, 2010, 07:01:05 AM
So I have had my cat Armani for at least 10+ years, my mom adopted him when I was in kindergarten, so I have known and loved him for as long as I can remember.

But recently I noticed a few startling things:

One: He has lost a noticeable amount of weight. he has some skin hanging down from his belly from his weight loss, I haven't really influenced this he has always had plenty to eat, and he has had vet check up yearly, so this weight loss is odd.

and two: I think he may be losing his vision. He was eating his cat food and I noticed half of it was against the side of the bowl, and he was meowing at me, and coerced me to follow him to his bowl and he kept looking at me expectantly. So I poured more food in and he started eating. I assume he could not SEE the food on the side of the bowl, it was inside of it, but just a little on the sides of the bowl outside of his new losing eyesight. I mean, his eyes look just fine but I think he may be losing it...

So am I just over reacting? Anyone know the average age of a cat's lifespan? Should I take it to the vet just to check him out? I don't want to lose my best friend  saddood; :(

No, don't take your cat to a vet. The internet knows more about cats.

In fact, due to my time on the internet and inspecting cat pictures I have determined that this is not healthy and your cat may require medical assistance.

I don't know... my cats have done similar things from time to time and I don't think it was necessarily because they were sick. Sometimes they won't eat the older food though why I do not know... perhaps it is stale? But the weight loss is a bit concerning, so yes, maybe you should take him into the vet.

Also, on average my cats have lived about 13-16 years

Anything beyond 13 years is a good long life for a cat, though if your cat was superfat if to begin with, you have a not-so-good shot. Definitely get a checkup, but this isn't an immediate emergency, sounds like.

Awww, I'm sorry. It's heart breaking to lose an animal.

My cat is my best friend too. I dread the day I lose him.  saddood;
