Title: god paid my parking ticket
Post by: snorkel on July 15, 2010, 12:35:58 PM
Several weeks ago I was given a ridiculous parking citation for parking near a 'closed' public beach at 10:30pm. I was down on the beach, happily enjoying freedom and smoking a tobacco product, when some pigs fucking drove straight down the dirt path to the beach in their car, swiveling their little lights toward me. they got out and accosted me like a criminal for being on the beach (apparently there is a sign, somewhere, that says it closes at 10). one of them took my cigar and smelled it thoroughly, the other continuously fired leading questions at me like "come on how much pot did you smoke," they made me stand still with the impression I would be shot if I attempted to exit their little play set while checking my name (they actually didn't even allow me to give them my license, saying, 'oh and I suppose you don't have your license on you right? hah right give me your name, where's the weed huh?')

So after this episode, when they finally can't find anything to arrest me for and leave, I go back up to my car and find a citation on my windshield, almost completely illegible because it was raining. this outraged me so I crumpled it up and threw it in the backseat.

I found it again today and checked it online to see what consequence my harmfully illegal parking would bear, only to discover it mysteriously "has a status of closed, and there is no current amount due." it was due 2 weeks ago and the county hasn't sent a 'pay your tribute now plus now 20% more for being late' notice, so I can only conclude that

- doodthing extended his all-knowing love to me in the form of voiding this citation
- despite being evil fucking menacing dolts, the pigs may for some reason have decided to revoke the citation after talking to me on the beach (they asked if I had parked there and I answered factually)
- someone looked at it/processed it and perhaps noticed the city shouldn't be charging citizens exorbitant fees for attempting to use their public areas

This is why...

1) Police officers need to be paid a much greater  salary so...

2) Tolerance for police brutality/unnecessary force will be greatly reduced so...

3) Unfit police officers can be fired, and new officers will be recruited thanks to pay that is comparable to the potential *ahem* danger the police officers may endure.

Looks good on paper; though, I know of no real examples of this ever being attempted/working, so for all I know I could be full of shit.

Bro, that dirt path was built for the purpose of squad car access when it became a legal beach (in 97 I think). The history of that place is pretty cool, really. The Cedar Lake junction used to have huge railyards extending both down the old riverbed, as well as sildings going down the Kennilworth trench. Drifters and the like first started hanging out/camping at Hidden Beach back in the 40s and even back when my dad was growing up there were still big camps put there (and on the islands in Lake of the Isles (how cool is that?). Anyways, at some point in the late 80s/early 90s all the residents pooled resources to create a public space there, manage it, and hire off duty cops to patrol it and keep the camps out. Eventually the park board took over (I really think it was 97) and made it a legal beach with infrastructure and such.

Praise Jesus

But really, that's pretty cool.

A few months ago, my sister visited me at my college, and got a parking ticket in the parking lot of my dorm, and for some reason they put MY entire college account on hold, and gave the reason of "unpaid parking ticket".

I was like wtf i don't even have a car here.
