Title: Fallout: New Vegas
Post by: spaceman on July 08, 2010, 12:13:52 PM
Is it actually going to be good or will it be Fallout 3.5?
Title: Re: Fallout: New Vegas

Is it not allowed to be both?

Uh, if it's Fallout 3.5, it'll still be awesome, just unoriginal. You don't have to fix something that isn't broken.

If you seriously thought Fallout 3 was bad, you're fucked up. doodhuh;

But even just watching the trailers should be enough to tell you that it is very derivative of Fallout 3. It looks way more active and less of a "wasteland," though. Vegas is supposed to be largely still standing, and will have less effects of radiation. Of course, the desert practically is a wasteland anyway, so...

in the grand scheme of things, no, it wasn't. it was very glitchy, yes, but considering the massive scope of the game that generally works just fine, i would never call the game "broken"
Title: Re: Fallout: New Vegas
Post by: Thyme on October 17, 2010, 11:58:18 AM
I would.

The glitches would really get in the way at times. And now it's getting done by the people who've made Alpha Protocol. It's probably going to be unplayable.

The exploration was really boring and repetitive. I have to admit that I did get addicted to it, but in retrospect, all those similar-looking interiors got pretty boring in the long term.

The graphics have aged weirdly badly considering it's not that old of a game and they don't seem to have made any improvements in that regard for NV. Except maybe for the faces, they look a bit better.

So yeah, gonna skip it.

there's been 5 expansion packs and none of the main map doodhuh;

all the areas associated with the expansions were already in the game, just inactive, like recon craft theta for example, or rocklin car tunnel, or the area you meet wernher, or the steamboat landing (just probably without the boat)

the expansions added new maps connected to the main one in some way, of which, point lookout's is by far the biggest and coolest

What was so buggy or glitched in Fallout 3 that made it so impossible to play? I honestly didn't run into any issues at all in my 100+ hours of gameplay, on the 360 version.

Also, Can you play past the main game in New Vegas? I will probably be able to answer this myself soon, but I haven't heard of any news regarding the ending. I did every sidequest in FO3 before finishing the main game before I even knew about the unpassable ending, so it really didn't effect me.

i agree that the order starts with Lookout > Broken Steel > the rest

but i didn't hate Zeta lol, i actually thought some parts of it were pretty fun and some of the weapons you get there are awesome

idk i think i would say my order is... Point Lookout > Broken Steel > The Pitt > Mothership Zeta > Operation Anchorage

anchorage is the only one i found genuinely boring

yeah the two sets of armor you get from anchorage are pretty much all you'll ever need the entire rest of the game

chinese stealth armor for easy sneak criticals and not having to fight every enemy, or just to sneak around for fun and steal/murder/mezz

winterized t-51b power armor for durability, rad/charisma bonuses, and the fact that it never deteriorates

it looks ridiculous as hell in 3rd person but i like wearing stealth armor + winterized helmet

plus you get the gauss rifle which is a great weapon for knocking down enemies and running away or just buying time

I was so close to 100% BUT I missed ONE, ONE FUCKING BOBBLEHEAD inside of dad's lab desk in Vault 101! I didn't realize it was there, and I was not going to playthrough it all again to get it. By the time I realized it, I had already gone back to Vault 101, and had been locked out again. I was pissed.

And yeah, Hardcore Mode looks awesome, and hopefully all this DLC in the Collector's Edition will be useful.

I have homework up the ass, so I am picking it up Thursday morning, as soon as Best Buy opens, so I can play for the entire day without interruption. I know if I pick it up today, I will not do anything else.

with a game like fallout, where there's such an immense amount of programming variables, it's almost expected to see some glitches

granted, there are too many of them, but that doesn't take away from the fact that the game kicks ass anyway

the amount of game that does work just fine and is awesome is far greater than the amount that's broken

Well I played for 5.5 hours today, and boy golly do I enjoy it. Started a game on Hardcore mode. Its not really that hard, though it does make you think more about survival and conservation of resources waaaay more than I ever did in FO3. And I actually have to go to a fucking doctor, which I never did a single time in FO3. So far its fun, though I don't like the story nearly as much as I do FO3's, though my friend says once you actually get to vegas it really starts picking up, so I dunno.

BEST GLITCH OF THE DAY: A Powder Gang member who was trying to kill me touched a rock, immediately stopped what he was doing and just stood there. This allowed me to waltz over to him and literally meat cleaver his fucking head off. Other than that, nothing that was too out of the ordinary.

FUCKING BEST BUY!

They under-ordered so it was first-come first-serve on Collector's Edition! I had a preordered for it, so they were like "lol my bad" so they gave me the choice of waiting until another CE comes in, they'll call me or send it to my house, OR buying the standard, able to play the game at least, until the CE comes in, and get the CE free of charge via an exchange, regardless of the game being opened.

I bought the standard. HOWEVER, I am NOT going to play it! Why? Would you wear an outfit if only the top was given to you, no matching pants? HELL NO. So I am waiting until my god damn CE comes in.

Things sort of worked out better than expected. Paying $55 for the CE instead of $75 now. But god damn, I was ready TODAY! I was tempted to check out Gamestop for extras and forgetting about Best Buy all together, but I am a patient man...

no because there's no hype behind them

i've played actual bad games and they were less glitchy than that

glitches aren't anywhere near as bad as other things that bring a game down, if you ask me

like, i don't think there's a single glitch in existence that's as annoying as, say...stairs in the NES Castlevanias - a result of deliberate programming

and hype has nothing to do with quality, why would you even care about hype lol

i meant that people don't really care about things like movie games (besides soccer moms) so nobody really cares if they're bad; it's no surprise

but when people have been hyping games like this up and they have glaring glitches people tend to overlook them (especially reviewers who get paid to do this)
Title: Re: Fallout: New Vegas

Has nyerp always been this huge dark cloud? I don't remember anyone hating every single game mentioned on this board and defending the poor quality of a game to this point before.

Is he being serious? Taking things way too seriously.

Title: Re: Fallout: New Vegas
Post by: C.Mongler on October 21, 2010, 01:55:57 PM
you do realize that these dont happen to every single person who plays the game right. like each person has their own individual unique and hard to replicate glitches that are just unique to them. that one i took a video of is the only really bad one i've found so far, and it fixed itself once i reloaded the area
Title: Re: Fallout: New Vegas
Post by: Samus Aran on October 21, 2010, 02:02:22 PM
most, if not nearly all, glitches in fallout 3 were just tiny things that didn't really affect anything, anyway

i mean, yeah they were really common, at least compared to most games, but still

in my most recent playthrough for some reason Dogmeat's eyes and tongue were extended into long needles that stuck out like a foot from his head, but only while i was exploring the main story vault where you get the GECK

i lol'd quite heartily

The Pitt WAS unplayable. It crashed no matter what until they uploaded the actually fucking dlc and not a notepad document that said "DICKS 10101010" and renamed it thepitt.xboxfile then uploaded that.

OHH SHIT I saved this lady from being wrecked by Geckos and she thanked me and it actually affects my reputation! This game is awesome. And looking down Iron sights, changes combat entirely. I no longer just run around and wait for VATS to refill AP before firing, since I have a real ability to aim at whatever I want in real time.

Also for traits I chose Kamikaze (+10 AP, -2 Damage something) and trigger discipline (-20% speed with gun fire but +20% accuracy)

I like how they have good/bad advantages to balance it out. You can't be an all-out tank like in FO3.

Oh and Mojave Music Radio is pretty cool. I don't like it better than "THREEE DOOOG" but it still has nice tunes. It fits the aesthetic perfectly, the cowboy songs, if only I could ride a horse.

I absolutely LOVED this game for the first couple of days I played it. Now I'm pretty far into the game, and I can't help but be disappointed and a little angry at the developers for rushing it. The game is much smaller than it first seems. You see that map on your Pip-Boy? Yeah, well you can actually only explore a good 2/3 of it. You can't touch the rest of it. (Actually, I found a way to, but there's literally nothing out there. It's a true wasteland.)

Between the bugs, glitches, and now huge amount of unused space on the map, I actually decided to stop playing until some DLC comes out.
