1. add blueprints for "uncrafting" refined and reclaimed metal
2. make golden wrench apparently obtainable whenever you craft something
3. people constantly uncraft and recraft their metals
4. remove blueprints

Also, the first guy to get a wrench no longer has it (but he's still on tf2items' list as having an unnumbered wrench) and is also VAC banned.

I'm just hoping the PDQ finally goes public. Frontier Justice seems like a weapon I won't use, but the other unrevealed weapons might work well with it so I don't know quite yet.

FUCK! I want a golden wrench but I KNOW I will not get one! For some reason I have had 4 drops today ALL SCOTTISH RESISTANCE! So I'm going to craft all three of them tomorrow, at exactly 12 PM Noon EST, and hope for the best.

Time has nothing to do with it. I've seen them drop at all kinds of different times.

Also it's been suggested that once the first 100 drop, they'll spread similarly to the gibus.

Why are the new weapons making the Engie more dependent on his sentry? At this rate unless the final weapon is the PDQ or a similar variant, I'm just going to be running as a vanilla Engie post-update. No I don't care if I can take control of my sentry, enhancing its rate of fire and defences, if I can't still move around and watch my own fucking back from spies.

Oh well, at least having a new payload map is nice.

dude, your sentry will only be defenseless for THREE seconds after you switch from wrangler to your shotgun to spy check etc. Honestly, there wouldn't be a point of switching from wrangler unless everything is dead.

I like the wrangler, sounds like it's extremely situational and makes it possible for BATTLE ENGIE! Now engineers on Attack on Payload isn't so dumb! I guess the "personal robot" ideas were not too far off.

The only thing I don't get about the wrangler was the line "Sentry does not select it's own targets", so what, are you selecting?

Also, I crafted my three soldier items, just ended up with the solder token, no wrench...YET.

Pfft...lol. You clearly don't understand the concept of a battle engie. A battle engie attacks in tandem with his sentry, not having the sentry do everything as always. 2 parts of a whole that can deal with most enemies in a head to head shootout.

This is why I'm so interested in having something like the PDQ, it would lessen the build time greatly, allowing the sentry to be a valuable asset to all faster. Being a battle engie allows you to be more mobile while still having some area denial with a level 1 sentry.

Most players don't consider a level 1 sentry to be a threat, and that makes them all the more lethal. They're also smaller and quieter than the higher level sentries meaning they can stay up far longer than the other ones. The lack of the level 3 rocket pods also makes it harder to find as there isn't a fucking obvious smoke trail leading right back to it.

Yes, I am someone who plays Engineer a lot, and I hate turtling with Engies with a passion. Each sentry level has their own unique strategies, with level 1 sentries being a harassment tool that tend to be ignored, level 2 sentries having enough firepower to deal with small groups while still being tough to locate if in an unusual position, and level 3 sentries being a death cannon that has a stickybomb magnet installed standard.

As for the "Sentry doesn't select own targets", I would imagine you are the one controlling the sentry directly.

Hey, I like how you think man, I just thought, level 1 sentry, no point in this, level 2, it's ok, but I gotta get to level 3 or get wrecked, level 3 NOW WE ARE IN BUSINESS. But yeah, I see your point about the rockets, NEVER thought of the levels in this way.

With how you think about the engineer, vanilla, I bet you will find SOME use for the wrangler. Then again, with the level 3 sentry's obvious smoke, you will probably hate the super obvious laser beam for targeting enemies.

Gotta join your games, man, definitely going to play some engineer like you do.

I shall direct you to one of the videos that can show how to be more agressive and less campy. Like it is mentioned at one point in the video though, you can have some bad luck/timing and get rolled by a random pyro around a corner right when you start building. It's almost as old as the game itself, but is still pretty applicable because I've been in a payload game where a red engie did a similar thing and the team I was on couldn't even get close to the first checkpoint since it kept picking off everyone that was wounded. Well that and we had a pair of Medics that would Ubercharge themselves and charge into battle with their Ubersaws, being not kredit to teem.

So now I prepare to not play Engineer for the next 2 weeks unless I end up in a server with players that aren't achievement whores. I'll probably be playing a good amount of Pyro/Heavy for a while to counter the Engie counters.

Yeah same here. Engie is my main but I'm willing to hold off because everyone wants DEM ITUMS.

So the update is out, and I'm dling it now. A question comes to mind though, how does cutting off your own hand and replacing it with a mechanical one give you more health? Oh well. Also, 3 new official payload style maps and cp_coldfront is now an official community map.

The Shiv needed a nerf, badly. The bleedout, specifically.

Also I doubt you've downloaded it without trying. The US servers are incredibly busy. I would suggest changing your server location.

Netherlands here. Getting around 150-200 kb/sec, but I'm willing to wait for the half-gig update to finish.

Also the Engie apparently got a taunt-kill involving a guitar. Honky Tonk Man specifically.

AHHH ITS AWESOME! THIS IS WHAT THE ENGINEER SHOULD HAVE BEEN! Moving my buildings is awesome, CHANGING THE FUCKING DIRECTION, ITS ABOUT TIME!

Also the new bleed out effect is distracting as hell, with that MW2 fade to red and fade out effect.

The new map, Thundermountain is awesome, there are so many places to put sentries, and ways around the place it's crazy.

I like how all the engineer achievements are easily accessible and no reason to farm for them, got the frontier in one game of Payload.

All this and I  haven't even TOUCHED the wrangler, and gunslinger! So far, this is the best update.  giggle;

Also, did anyone else notice the new "Misc2" slot? THE EXCITEMENT IS ONLY BEGINNING TO BUILD!

plus the polycount stuff is speculated for releasing next week or so, this is awesome.

Well the new content is cool and all, but would it kill Valve to optimize thier new maps? I get an average of 15 fps idle on pl_upward, while the same settings gets me 50-70 fps idle on older maps like goldrush and badlands. It's not a subtle difference I can say that much.

Sandvich is broken, as if you eat one, you can't switch to it again until you either go to a resupply, or pick up a health pack when at full hp, which was supposed to be dropped in this update. Dropping a Sandvich however, works correctly as the cooldown timer functions properly when you drop one.

Scottish Resistance got the same effect payload carts got in that you can see an outline of them through walls and the outline changes color if you're targeting them.

Also, I agree that the "bleed" effect is a bit exaggerated and could be toned down or something. Keep it to the edge of vision or something so it isn't as distracting.

Gunslinger is crap, it seems like it's slower to upgrade friendly buildings, and mini sentries are meh.  Gunslinger is really useless.

Wrangler is cool though, and it is really punishing for those who dont expect it, the range is ridiculous.

still waiting on Southern Hospitality to drop or attempt to craft it.

just wait and play for about 10 minutes and it'll drop. Due to it being update week and server overload, drops will be delayed even for milestones.

It's just 24-man stock maps with no crits or damage spread and only administrative plugins.

Yea I ended up getting it. My game apparently didn't update so when I logged out it ended up updating then I got my weapon.

So far I have southern hospitality and frontier justice from the update.

God damn I hate quake sounds, every server downloads it.Also balloons and random party hats and shit, come on guys. Takes like 5 minutes just to join the server for all the plug in BS. rtd is OK on all crit fuck around servers. Getting things like 20 seconds of instant kills is swell.

It is cool to get little global messages like "x got a triple kill" and the resulting cheers and jeers. Once I got one, felt badass, since I did it as a pyro in the middle of 2fort.

Just found out the formula for southern hospitality is apparently 1 scrap metal + ambassador. I can craft it right away, I have a ton of ambassadors for some reason whenever I get a random drop, and I HATE the ambassador.

Me too! I also had 3 flare guns so I could get rid of those too to get the scrap metal. It killed two birds with one stone!

god damn, I wish there was a trade system! I accidentally crafted the one flare gun I got (thought I had dupes), and for some reason have not gotten one in a drop since, and I loved the flare gun. Now I have excess ambassadors  :(

Anyone ever have this happen: I only had 1 bonk juice, so I decided to craft it with an extra krietgrieg for crit o cola(waited forever for an extra bonk juice to drop, never happened), so I expected to not have the bonk juice anymore, but I did. So I now have both the Bonk and crit o cola. I assume it was a glitch, but idk.

You don't know how to use it. It's an offensive weapon. For one, upgrade rate is at least close to equal.

Second, it's an offensive weapon. You drop it in an area where it can get a few assists and maybe some kills. After it gets destroyed, you get some revenge crits on the Frontier Justice and go to town. THAT is what it's for.

Been trying more of this, running into the middle of battle, dropping it, switching to pistol, shooting everything, sentry assissting, then it's gone, revenge kill.

BUT I find it slightly more useful, although more time consuming to build a level 2 sentry, move it into battle shoot along side it, and then revenge kill, use wrangler optionally and revenge kill.

Also, polycount winners are announced tomorrow, that should be interesting. The entries are really creative.

Personally I use the normal shotgun and pistol with the Gunslinger, cause you're still going to be doing the majority of the shooting. The minisentry is more of a diversion than something that kills. It's also useful in that its metal cost allows you to slap down a dispenser too without needing to get more metal.

I understand that the patch valve did to the game regarding level 3 minisentires  is supposed to prevent that from happening, but why does changing melee weapons also destroy ALL of your buildings? Maybe I'm using the Gunslinger and want to change to the wrench while I have a good teleporter and a full dispenser? Oh but the position needs to be fortified since I can't advance anymore. Well if I want to use my wrench, those very useful buildings will be destroyed when I grab my wrench out of the supply closet.

Also, finally got to try the Wrangler myself. It's kind of fun, and I suppose if you spam its firepower down a chokepoint while a teammate keeps it armed it could be good, but I don't really see a use for it. I also don't like that it makes you far more dependent on your sentry, as if it's gone all you have for range is your shotgun.
