Title: my week
Post by: applesauce on July 01, 2010, 08:19:50 PM
Hello. I will make a list.

BAD THINGS:

It's too hot.

I am too tired.

So I got back from Singapore on Saturday afternoon (13 hour time difference my balls), was bombarded with yard work, and then went to work on Monday.

All this week I have worked 10-hour shifts at work. Also, my job kinda sucks because it involves "inspecting" (measuring sq. footage and recording appliance model #s) people's apartments, which are often smelly, and are regularly filled with unpleasant people (aka Mexicans or people angry about having their apartments inspected), and I often get yelled at for various things relating to management that I know nothing about.

Furthermore, every day after getting home from work I have had to go mow lawns for another 2-3 hours and it sucks balls.

I am tired every day.

GOOD THINGS:

I was just given a ton of EE series saving bonds  dating back to 1993, worth just under $5000.

I am making money at work.

It will be over soon.

The City decided to go ahead with a New Starts application for a Nicollet/Central streetcar line.

I am going to three concerts this weekend.

INTERESTING THINGS:

Today I was inspecting an apartment occupied by a single woman, one of the 37 today. I was measuring a wall when I noticed a basket full of about two dozen vibrators.

Our office is being foreclosed. Fucking bank faggots. We're moving five blocks down the street and splitting the office in two. One part is above an awesome sushi place I like.

Thanks for reading.

Goodnight.

I say this because I pictured a person just picking a random forum to join just to tell them about his week.

Hello.

I will not make a list. I will tell a story.

Had french toast. It was good.

Tried to go to the Home Depot in Northeast, but had to turn back due to immense diarrhea.

Tried to go to Home Depot again. This time it worked.

Purchased 5 LED light bulbs, two boxes of bags, and a lot of industrial shelving. The shelving weighed 1,630 pounds in total. At least that's what the boxes said.

Put the shelving in the basement of an apartment building. This was tiring because it was heavy and it was 93 today.

Went and looked at some tuck-pointing, because the guy who was doing it OD'd on some prescription drugs, slit his wrists in a suicide attempt, and is now locked up at HCMC.

Got a water at a coffee shop.

Looked at the space where most of our new office is going to be. It was much cleaner than the last time I was there. It used to be a welding shop, until the welder bought a farm in Wisconsin.

Toured the building where the rest of our office might be located, if we buy it. The downstairs is nice- it has a nice restaurant, two bars, and a club in it. Also a vacant restaurant space. But the upstairs is a mess. It used to be 18 apartments, but they've been unoccupied for 20+ years and are torn to hell. Besides, no one would live above a club. At least not without sound attenuation. The roof was only about 5 years old, and they even wrapped the center parapet.

Then we went to this condo building because we had to set up the model (the old one sold) and we get there and find that the fucking cleaners reassembled the bed, but in the wrong room, and it has to be taken apart to fit out and into the right room. How nice of them.

Drove around looking looking for this one building owned by the guy who owns the building across the parking lot from the one we might buy. He wants to tear part of it down because part of the roof collapsed during that huge-ass storm we had last week, and it collapsed on a Mexican grocery store, which was then abandoned for a week and is now on the verge of being condemned and declared a public health hazard. Actually, most of the time we were just looking for Van Buren Street.

Went home and sat down for like five minutes, ended up sleeping for an hour.

Mowed the lawn.

Biked to the The Hold Steady show. It was good.

Biked home, singing "America the Beautiful" most of the way.

Did some fireworks.

Thanks for reading.

Goodnight.

Today.

Unorganized.

Fuck my father.

So I get home today, and he's pissed off because I got home at 6:30, when I usually get home at 5:15.

"Blah,blah,blah, where were you"

So I explained that I had to run home to get my tape before heading to post the inspection notice for tomorrow on 29th Avenue, because I lost my other tape somewhere. I don't know where.

And then I stopped at Calhoun Cycle, but they didn't have what I needed, and it was not too hot out, or raining, so I walked to Sunrise Cyclery and bought it and then walked back.

He was also pissed off because his wife was not home to make dinner. You know why? Because she was working 14 hours today because everyone except for the family took today off. Lazy faggots.

Also, he did not make enough food. And during that unpleasant silence that always follows a too-small dinner, he decided to yell at me because apparently he knows better than I when people told me to mow their lawns and apparently I was supposed to mow the Gillian's Saturday, even though they come home tomorrow. Yeah, that makes sense.

Then he proceeded to yell at me about how I am lazy because I wanted to wait for the lawn to dry, and how I need to just go do it so I can go to bed, because I am apparently "too tired to function."

Admittedly, I was somewhat tired. I got home at 2:30AM last night from the The Hold Steady show, but I was at work by 7, and I got a whole building done today-- literally everything from the inspections ot the data entry to drawing the floorplans and all that bullshit.

Oh yeah, my parents also decided yesterday to inform me that the $15,800 a year in merit scholarship I earned doesn't count as my 75% of tuition; I have to pay 75% of the total, after the scholarships are factored in. Wtf, they are paying significantly less money for me to go to college than they did for me to go to high school, and now I just have to get a shitload of loans.

In other news, I found a '72 Schwinn Galaxy in an alley today.

Also, I didn't really eat anything today. I'm hungry.

And it is still too hot.

Thanks for reading.

Bad news so far:
I have to go to one of my friend's premier at some hippie café and now I have to help with the projector for some reason
I was b& from my internet
My PS3's delivery date was sent back to Friday because of SCS
Power surge

Pretty much the worst is getting temporarily b& from my internet. To restore it I need to call them with a PIN number that I have to get from my grandparents after lying to them about only downloading one episode of the Colbert Report. I'm moving anyway.

Good news:
I'm still alive and going to college

This week.

List.

Good things:
I went draining again. Wasn't really this week; it was a little bit before. It was a sucesss.
I've had a good relaxing timeup here at the lake. It is nice to see my extended family. They are nice to be with and I am somewhat sentamental towards them. I enjoy watching them be drunks.
My girlfriend was up here for 4 days. That was pleasant.
I had scallops for dinner tonight.
I am going to some horse races tomorrow. I've never been.

Bad things:
There is blood on my screen. It is mine.
My phone stopped doing data for four days because my dad didn't pay the bill. Wouldn't normally be so bad but I'm up in the fucking middle of nowhere with no computer.
My mom's dumbass friend who is like 50 but thinks she's 20 was up here. She was supposed to leave after a day but she stayed for 4 days. She spent the entire time talking about being in a Springsteen video, going on some HIV fundraising ride, and going to a wedding with Craig Finn. I would not be surprised if she were having an affair with my dad. I used to be convinced that such was the case.
I am very sore from lots of waterskiing, tubing, and biking. I am, however, very well rested.

Neutral things:
Matt Lock
Fricket

Things in am excited for:
Going home.
College.
Census data coming out.
Draining again.
Sleep.

Things I am not excited for:
Work.
Leaving Minneapolis.

 Thanks for reading.

Goodnight.

Today.

Packed, drove home.

Went to Canterbury Park. It was actually really cool; I've never gambled before. Also, horse racing is surprisingly classy. I won some and lost some, ended up $10.80 short of where I started.

Come home. Sat on the internet for a long time. No one cares.

Biked to the Aquatennial fireworks. They were really superb, definatly the best I've ever seen. The finale was like a single plume of fire that lasted for 3-4 minutes, no joke.

So then on my way home, like 10:50 or so, I'm biking down Nicollet, just past 26th heading south, and it's downhill and I'm feeling great, so I'm going just under 25 and really enjoying the cool night air. I've got my lights on, and all the streetlights are on, and there's hundreds of people milling about in the street from Azia, A26, Jasmine 26, and The Bad Waitress. This van in one of the parking spots looks like it's starting to pull out, so I swing over to the center turn lane to go past him. Only he doesn't pull out, the fucker starts doing a U-turn obviously without even looking, and accelerating really fast. I slam on my brakes and skid across the center lane, across the opposite lane, and through the parking lane, passing within two or three feet of his grill. WHAT THE FUCK.

Okay, guac time.

Thanks for reading.

Yes, we should. It is surprisingly tiring, and so far both times I've gone the people I was with (Sandro and Patrick the first time, Marissa and Jordan the second) have wanted to head back out just after going up and down the first helix. Both times it's taken about an hour and a half.  I definately want to make it all the way through the whole thing before I leave for school.

I had a very eventful day today.

So, first thing in the morning, the very first apartment I walk into... is filthy and filled with trash. The places is completely empty, except for four trash bags filled with bedding and clothes in a corner, and tons of trash and grime littered about the place. It smells like gas, and all the lights and the ceiling fan are turned on. My sheet says the apartment is occupied, but that they owe just under $2,500 in late rent. I look in the fridge...everything is dated April or May. It's abandoned. Dipshits.

Here are some pictures of how terrible the mess was/is:

Yuck.

Later, I was going around you know, and I opened one (which had been unresponsive) to find a naked man sleeping on a bed in the living room with no blankets or sheets. Umph.

I get back to the office, and have a chance to explore the basement of this building, which is a little over 100 years old. I wish I had taken pictures of the boiler. She's a 'beaut.

Later, some guy walks in, saying that he hadn't seen his elderly neighbor in four days, that his cat has been crying for the last two days, and that they can see him in his chair through the window, but he doesn't respond to knocking. My dad goes over, and sure enough, he's dead. Within half an hour they've got 3 squad cars, a medical examiner's van, and a truck from animal control, effectively blocking off 25th street to all traffic, resulting in angry drivers. The guy was in his early 70s. The saddest thing is that neither us nor he police can manage to find his next of kin.  :(

So I come home, and am am so happy, because we turned the AC on for the first time in two years, and the thermometer in my room has dropped below 90 for the first time in over two months (I live on the third floor (used to be attic), with no windows, so I get stuck with all the rising heat from the whole house). Yum.

Then this french family, the family of our former foreign exchange student, who moved out because she was scared of my dad, comes over for dinner, and it's awesome. Midway through, my uncle's brother shows up. He's in town on tour (professional pianist).

Small thunder storm rolls in.

Power goes out.

Uncle's brother plays concert for us by candlelight in our living room for us.

They all left.

Power came back on.

What do I do? Tell Boyah about my day.
