My views on pansexuality were destroyed with an argument with my psychology teacher.

Though, I think Skylark's the only one that actually is pansexual.  akudood;

I am one of them homosexuals.

Asexuality really fascinates me.  My boyfriend and I are wondering whether it really exists.  We know someone who identifies as this, but we have a hard time believing him....

Bisexuality refers specifically to male and female.


Polysexuals might be attracted to biological males, and transgenders of a certain gender but not biological females and other transgenders. I'm sure hermaphrodites also play a role in this

Human psychology plays a huge role in it.  If you were naturally attracted to large breasts you might not be attracted to a girl with large breasts as a result of augmentation. though that still isn't really that great of an analogy.

it goes somewhat back to the poly and pansexual view on there not being just two genders. there are distinctions made between biological sex and gender identity. one may be attracted towards the biological sex(hormones are involved. sex changes haven't really solved this yet) and gender identity

Ok but aren't there hormones and the like which tell you which sex you are attracted to? A transexual may have a different gender identity, but people would still be attracted to him/her for the sex they are born as (and still are currently), not because they're a transexual mentally. For example, a lesbian may want nothing to do with men but this would not prevent heterosexual men from being attracted to her merely because of her orientation which is not a physical biological characteristic. I don't see how this attraction would work with a transexual because they are biologically one sex even if their gender identity is different. So one would still only be attracted to male or female

It is odd though that there would be self-loathing homosexuals if it was not an innate trait that they could not control. I suppose it's possible that their fondness for the same-sex would be something developed sub-consciously, but it seems like social stigma and self-preservation would lead their sub-conscious  away from it... perhaps the taboo nature of it also plays some role though.

self-loathing is formed by societal pressures or by the need to conform to feel "accepted" which will cause psychological conflicts with the self (because you're a faggot in texas for example)

there's more biological play in homosexuality rather than environmental factors (the example i was using earlier was to determine the fondness for certain traits, which would be environmental i suppose)

Bisexuality assumes a gender binary, but it doesn't necessarily exclude transfolk, as long as they identify within the binary. If they don't, i.e. if they're genderqueer or third gender or just don't feel comfortable with the exact words male and female, it's exclusive. I hate the term, but it's easy, and I don't like people associating pansexuality with wanting to have sex with everything constantly.

So  if someone was attracted to third gender or whatever would you say that is something established from birth or something that is picked up due to societal factors?

I'm not sure.  :( I was talking with someone who thought that sexuality was from birth but certain preferences (like boys or girls more within bisexuality) within it are social, I liked that. I think genderqueer folks are forced to be societal outcasts, and that could be a part of the attraction at first, which would imply that societal factors matters. But I'd say who you love, no matter who, is from birth.

The reason I ask is because as far as I know, there is no pheromone or hormone that a third gender person would give off to cause someone to be explicitly attracted to third gender people. It seems unlikely that someone could then be attracted to a third gender from birth, as opposed to males or females, as such a concept does not really exist physically, it's more of a mental indentity. I don't know that the concept of a third gender would be something someone could be attracted to without learning about in a conscious manner first

In terms of physical attraction, I'd somewhat agree with you, though I do think the mind's perception of a person's appearance, character traits, and perhaps underlying person does inform sexiness as much as pheromones do. But when it comes to love, I'm sure.
