Title: The Burdens of Studiousness: Midyears / Finals / Applying to College / Big Tests
Post by: the shortest route to the sea on November 23, 2009, 12:25:12 PM
Discuss any of it here.

Me, I just got my exam schedule for Midyears JUST AS I finished outlining a plan for college application work over the break. My break is going to be mostly writing those 10 essays for my supplements, doing some incidental homework, recording music for the Vassar app, and reading 3 acts of lear at 10 pages/30 minutes. After that, school starts back up again (on Monday the 30th), with Midyears starting on the 17th. I worked out my study schedule...and I have 55.5 hours of study lined up over a two and a half week period to get ready for the biggest exams of my school year.

And then I'm finishing up my applications

Motherfucker.

hopefully i don't go down in flames  :(

I have 4 final projects due on the same day and one on the next after that.

I'm going to completely change majors next year but don't know where to go or if I'll be able to afford it, etc. It's essentially like I'm going into college for the first time all over again.

And I simply don't have any time to make Jello Cookies.

Apparently, I have a Math test Wednesday and I skipped all of last week, when he said what stuff is on the test. This test should have been during finals week, not 2 weeks before them. Fuck that teacher.

Umm...I have a paper due the Monday after break...3-4 pages
I also have a big English project due fairly soon and I haven't done or started most of it

I will be retaking that Math class I talked about earlier since the teacher sucks ass. Really pisses me off.

You're changing majors? From what I could tell, Graphic Design was working really well for you. Watcha thinking of, instead?

Well you just take basic cookie ingredients and then put in the magical jello powder and bake for 6 to 8 minutes at 350 degrees.

A risky move. But do what you love.

Something I've noticed: you're writing gets stale when you're bitter, but it flourishes best when you're slightly sardonic. At least I think so. It is the internet, after all.

Well I'm almost definitely not going to be writing novels. I'd be a Copywriter (writing for advertising/slogans/etc.), or a teacher (those who can't do teach hahaha right guys), or I don't know maybe a magazine will take me.

Oh and it is what I love and people that I read my papers/speeches to keep telling me I should be a writer and I can do anything if I just believe in myself.

Yesterday (since it's 1:47) I had to turn in a portfolio of finished non-fiction pieces for my "Advanced Writing" course.

Now, I'm working on something that might not be technically due today, since this professor is really lenient, but it is due sometime this week and I won't be here on campus after today, so I really need to finish it. It's really not a bad assignment, another poetry paper like all of her assignments are.

"Choose 5-7 poets: one in each of the following cultural/political categories: Black, White, Jewish, Feminist, Native American, Latino, Lesbian, Gay. Discuss their poems in relationship to their cultural and political identities. 6-8 pages, typed, double-spaced, referenced, MLA style."

I'm focusing on Amy Lowell for lesbianism, Ray A. Young Bear for Native Americans, Muriel Rukeyser for Judaism, Allen Ginsberg ("Howl," specifically, since it's fucking amazing) for gays, Sandra Cisneros for both feminism and Latinas, Langston Hughes for African-Americans (he's the easiest), and Bob Dylan for white.

Bob Dylan might seem odd, but it was my professor's suggestion. We talked about Bob Dylan together a lot this semester and she suggested I try to incorporate him into this paper. Talking about Dylan in regard to his identity as a white man is kind of odd, but I have an idea of how I'm gonna do it.

Kaz: I would've chosen Stefan Georg, the crazy gay Viennan from 1900, to trace the impressionist movement and the changes going on in northern europe.

I've never heard of Allen, I'll read it soon.
