He's a pretty cool guy but I'm completely missing why he deserves this at all.

I mean I could see it cause of his nuclear disarmament stuff and trying to be cool with other nations but it is kinda early to give him a Nobel peace prize. They could have at least waited till he did some more stuff  baddood;

And next week, Obama's troop surge in Afghanistan.

Whoever gave him this award clearly wants to try and influence U.S. policy. After all, it does not look too good for a 'peace prize' winning president to act, well, not peacefully.

I like Obama, I support Obama, and I voted for him in the election, but I honestly don't see why he currently deserves the award. I mean, he is warming relations with countries that Bush just gave the cold shoulder to, such as Cuba, Iran, Russia, and Venezuela, but I don't see how that deserves a Nobel Peace Prize. He's not even done with his first year in office yet. They should have waited until later in his term.

Honestly, I'm not even sure if Obama himself feels like he truly deserves it right now, but if you were offered the freaking Nobel Peace Prize, would you really it turn it down? I know I wouldn't.  baddood;

.

I cant really fathom why he would even be considered for this in the first place.
And their reasoning behind it seems to be "oh, he's a universal figure of hope and change blah blah blah".
He hasn't even been in office a whole year.
Hasn't got anything done.
Only kind of builds and confirms his sensationalist aura.
Blegh.

Less surprising than Teddy Roosevelt, but still, I did not see this coming at all

Not at all. Roosevelt's was in 1906, well into his second term. And by that time he had done a lot for peace and prosperity (in comparison).

He received the award for negotiating the treaty that ended the Russo-Japanese War... He wasn't looking for peace though... more so to keep rivals in check and preserve the balance of power in Asia. It was a strategic move, not a peaceful one.

Quote from TR on the treaty: "A mighty good thing for Russia and a mighty good thing for Japanâ, and â,"a mighty good thing for me, too!â,

In my book, historical events and tangible results trump wet feeling from watching and listening to Obama. Which is essentially what he got the award for.

I like Obama, but he's been in office for nine months. This is way too early for a peace prize.
