But what will they sell in there? Their OS and a couple 360s?
zunes, too
I doubt the stores will be as prevalent as the Apple Stores..meaning they'll open at a few select locations but they won't be all over the place...

They have just as many products to sell as Apple, if not more. A shit load of software, probably a few desktops and laptops running vista, 360 stuff, Zune stuff.
Plus they makes keyboards and stuff and maybe they can have Surface to attract people.
They'd gain a much larger crowd by selling Jet Black something-or-others.
I know for fucking sure that if they finished the "Surface" they'd make a killing selling anything in their store just because people would come to see the Surface. iPhone does a lot of what the Surface does but there are some just purely bad-ass features like transferring photos from a phone to another phone.
I think they should just streamline their products, the look of almost all their products are all over the place while Apple has a very specific look. Sure other problems are there but just step in the right direction.

Microsoft is a very large company with a lot of departments and products, whereas everything Apple makes is designed by the same few guys in Jobs's garage. akudood;
Will the employees get the BSoD baddood;
What really cracks me up is that Apple is shitting themselves over those "laptop hunter" commercials. One of Apple's marketing guys called up someone at Microsoft and told them to pull those ads because they were so effective.

The fact that the only source for that happening is from Microsoft I think I'm going to need some logs of the call and not just a microsoft rep saying it happened.
It's like MSNBC a few days ago when they reported about how 'experts' do not find Chrome OS secure.

I think it's completely stupid that Apple was mad at Microsoft. Apple was "the first to throw the stone" with their horrid PC guy and Mac guy.

I went to one of his shows during his book tour. He is hilarious.
I don't know if it's been said in the thread already, but they're also planning to "strategically locate" the stores right next to Apple stores.
I don't really understand Microsoft's advertising/PR department; seems like with all their money they could come up with ideas better than commercials about how expensive Macs are and stores with uncannily similar themes and locations

They could spend that money writing a new kernel.
One that doesn't use a registry.

That looks really boring. The atmosphere basically is that of Best Buy or Walmart's Electronics section with just Microsoft products. If they're trying to compete against the Apple Stores they can't do that.
Apple Stores are designed to seem really friendly and welcoming: not to seem like another generic electronics store. They pay attention to lighting, furniture, employee clothing, employee personality, and all of that. Microsoft is really missing the point of people going to the Apple Store for the atmosphere and that is why the stores are so successful. People go in just because it's not the same environment as Best Buy. They are able to play around with all of the computers. A friendly, upbeat employee not wearing the generic--usually blue--collared shirt approaches them and tries to make a sale without being forceful. Even if there is no sale at the time, the customer remembers this and will eventually come back and have a sale.
Just look at the differences:

(http://www.economyofeffort.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/07/apple-store.jpg)
Microsoft is missing the point completely.
wouldn't they go in the generic looking store because of familiarity madood;
I can't be sure this would really be how I'd react, I'm probably exaggerating, but I think I'd avoid going in an Apple Store in fear of not being hip enough. maps;

They're really not all that interesting.
Though, the last time I was in one was about two years ago and about thirty people were crowding around the iPhone table gawking at it lol. I only got to see it for like five seconds lol. :[
