Title: Who is correct in this argument between my mom and I?
Post by: anus on May 26, 2009, 03:27:43 PM
Ok, so I have a sinus problem, which is resulting in a headache. I've done some stuff to make it feel better (Tylenol, shower, steam) and then I went to sleep. After waking up, my head was still hurting, so my mom said to call my dad.

Here's the problem: my parents divorced years ago, and my parents hate each other. A lot. Especially my mom.

My dad asks if I took Tylenol, decongestant, etc. My mom asks for stronger pain medicine. He says the only thing stronger than that is prescription narcotics, which, you know, isn't needed for a headache.

He tells me to go out to Walgreens, which is 2 minutes away, and get decongestant, which I haven't taken. My mom flips out, and says he should bring it to me. He lives 10 minutes away. She says that this is what he did their entire marriage and didn't give a shit, which is somewhat true, but she's pushing it.

Basically, she doesn't want me to drive 2 minutes to Walgreens to get the medicine, because I have the oh-so-lethal headache, and she wants him to drive 10 minutes across town and get me the medicine, which would probably end up taking 20 minutes. Theoretically, I'll feel better faster if I go myself because I'll be able to take the medicine quicker. And she pretty much wants narcotics.

And now I'm starting to feel better. Again, all I have is a headache. No huge commotion needed.

So should I have asked my dad to drive 10 minutes to get me a simple medicine, or should I have gone myself and got the medicine, which would take two minutes (which I did)? And in her argument, the fact that he's 10 minutes away doesn't matter.

my parents used to do the same thing before I could drive. after that they really didn't have any reason to communicate

you should have just driven to Walgreens and bought some Dayquil, it has 325mg (I think) acetaminophen (tylenol) and 5mg phenylephrine (nasal decongestant) per cap. a couple of those and you'd be fine

cocaine works wonders for these symptoms as well

Ten minutes isn't too bad, but if you wanted to drive yourself, your mom should have let you.

uhhh....

it would be more time and gas efficient if he were to have driven himself. it makes no sense for his dad to drive him, especially if he prefers to drive himself (so that he may take the medicine faster)
